Resources, What Are They and How Are They Used?

Are you relatively new to EBS CRM? Are you not very familiar with the base modules? If so this article is just for you!

CRM Resources provide the link between Users and CRM functionality.  The image below shows the Resources form with an imported resource displayed.  Once the resource is imported CRM roles can be added to it.

We covered resource creation and roles, role groups and other resource-specific setups in our recent webcast:  EBS CRM Fundamentals - Resources.  The Oracle Trading Community Architecture Administration Guide covers Resource Manager and resources setups and also the implementation guides for the specific CRM module that you are using will have guidance relevant to that module.  For example, if you are a Field Service module user, see the Oracle Field Service Implementation Guide, Section 'Setting up Field Service Customers and Resources'.  By the way, remember you can replay any webcast by going to the product webcast page and using the Archived tabs e.g. for the 'EBS CRM Fundamentals - Resources' webcast go to Doc ID 1455786.1 and click on the 'Archived 2013' tab, from there you can view the replay or download the presentation.

If you have a question about resource setup for your CRM module, post a thread on the relevant My Oracle Support Community - post to the community for the module where you are using the resource.  We're there to answer your questions.

Spares Management: Understanding the Effect of Task Reassignment When a Parts Requirement Exists

If you use spares management and want to understand what happens to a parts requirement when a field service task is reassigned, then we have just the note for you!  Doc ID 1582488.1 describes the intended effects of reassigning a task that has a parts requirement assigned. Different behaviour will be seen depending on the 'Ship To' address of the task, the status of the source line of the parts requirement line(s) and the way the reassignment is done (manual or through scheduler).

When possible, the system will attempt to re-source the required part(s) and create a reservation or internal order for the parts for new resource. But that is not always possible. The document explains when it is possible and when it's not.  It also shows what the behaviour is when it's not possible and includes tips and tricks for the different scenarios.

After you've read the note, let us know what you think.  Was it useful?  Do you want to see more of this type of note?  Let us know by joining the conversation in the MOS Field Service and Depot Repair Community, we'd love to hear from you.
