Alert summary, a simple and improvable tool

This is a simple awk script (I wrote several years ago) to summarize the content of your database's alert.log.

Simply run:

$ awk -f alsum.awk /your/path/alert_YOURSID.log

and get a simple report organized in the following sections:

-- Alert summary

a sequence of all non redo switch events with time and date, includinr errors and trace files

---- all tracefiles

a list of all trace files referenced in alert_YOURSID.log

---- all starts and shuts

a list of all startup and shutdown operations occurred: 2 consecutive startup operations indicate a crash

---- trace time --------------------------------------------------------
-- trace begins: Mon Sep 24 16:43:47 2012
-- trace ends : Wed Mar 12 09:59:30 2014

dates of first and last event in alert_YOURSID.log

---- statisics ---------------------------------------------------------
-- ORA- errors : 167
-- tracefiles : 43
-- starts : 23
-- shuts : 20
-- terminations: 3
-- crash+-1 : 0

more or less self explanatory.

Is it perfect? No it isn't, I recommend you examine alert_YOURSID.log carefully in order to make your analysis as deep as required.

Is it supported? No, it isn't. Proofread this script before using it.

Enrico.
