ZFS Storage Appliance: Disk Enclosure Intermix Plan and EOL Dates for Disk Shelves

On 9th of April, we are announcing a plan to support intermixing the new DE2 (24P and 24C) enclosures and legacy DS2 enclosures in the same ZFS Storage Appliance system in September, 2013.

Intermixing disk enclosures will require a specific and prescribed upgrade procedure to existing systems, but can be performed without downtime in the case of cluster systems when an upgrade procedure is carefully followed.

DS2 End of Life

We are also announcing EOL of the DS2 disk enclosure today, with a last order date (LOD) of November 31, 2013. This gives customers approximately seven months to upgrade the capacity of their existing systems with the legacy disk enclosures. Additionally, customers who meet the intermix requirements can upgrade the capacity of their existing 7x20 series systems for at least the next three years by using the new DE2 disk enclosures.
