ODA: Support Policy FAQ (February 2012)

The following FAQ describes in more detail the support policy changes which have been announced at 15th. Feb. 2012.

Q:  What defines an agent that is allowed to be installed on the database appliance?

A:  An agent is anything used to manage, monitor, backup, replicate, authenticate, or otherwise act on the database, the server, or the environment.  An agent may store operational data in the database, but does not store or operate on end-user data.

Q:  Will there be third party agent installation guides and best practice white papers?

A:  Yes we will publish installation guides and best practice white papers for selected tier one agents (NetBackup, Networker, etc.) and encourage other vendors to publish their own installation guide/best practice white paper.

Q:  Can I install an application on the appliance?
Can I install a database on one server, and an application on the other server?

A:  No, you still cannot install an application on the appliance.  Support for applications is planned for the future (estimated CY2013).

Q:  My agent if cpu intensive and consumes a complete core of cpu resources.  Can I pin my agent to a core and not license that core for the database?

A:  No.  All cores in the server hosting a database must be licensed for the database, unless the server is used only for failover, and you operate failed over fewer than 10-days per year.

Q:  Will Oracle provide patch updates for my agent software?

A:  No.   Customers will be responsible for patching agents they install on the appliance.
