Worldwide Volunteer Week -Part 1
By Dwarakanath J on Apr 19, 2009
Thinks it is a time when people will start blogging about their activities as this week is dedicated for our Social Responsiblity.I want to be a small stone in that entire bridge that is being Constrcuted by us to bridge various Social inequalities.(looks like I am writing a book and not a blog).Usually I blog about events after few days but today I am doing it beacuse I can't stop myself from not doing it.
The Stone 1:
As a part of Worldwide Volunteer Week(WWVW) I have planned for couple of events in and around my campus. To start the week I have decided to make a visit to a orphange for mentally challenged people near Thanjavur(Tamil Nadu,India).
I took some of my SUN Club members to this place today morning,it is called
"Anbu Illam"(means Love Home in Tamil well translated it literally).A small pic of that home.
I had to do some formalities,so I went yesterday and did that I bought some bags, books, pencils and snacks for those children. We went their at 11am in the morning and started speaking with them. While my fellowmates were employing themselves to make preparations for the event.
We made them assemble in a Hall, and they prayed for our Well being(A moment that Touched my heart). We started giving them sweets and Pencils.A pic to relish that moment,
After this we decide to conduct the event like singing competion and there was a guy who was doing good painting,so we gave him drawing book and Sketch pen and he made a immediate picture and showed us,then we showed them our laptop for playing some games and taught them how to play.We spent almost two and half hours with them, and understood some ethical values of Life.
When we started from there, the most beautiful moment happened, there was small child named Santhosh,I told him that we are leaving by waving my hand,he came close to me and kissed his finger and kept his hand on my cheeks, the time I felt the beauty of life as that guy doesn't now how to speak, but he conveyed his regards in the most noble way.
Santhosh, the child who gave me a beautiful farewell
