Taking Kenai to classroom-One of the most exciting task I have done
By Dwarakanath J on Aug 02, 2009
It was some couple of months back,I started thinking about Kenai, and started porting some small appilcations to it.After some time I found kenai to be very exciting and want to propagate it among my friends.I was waiting for the right time to do it,and I got it in this week.
As a part of our curriculum,we have a course named "Mini Project"(you would have understood what it is,by its name),where we are expected to do some part of a project or a small project. In this regard, there was a lot of commotion that was happening like, which topic to select, which technology to use,and some more similar questions.
Suddenly I was asked to resolve this issue by our HOD,and after some time I suggested him two step process to solve it.First to create a new intranet portal, that could profile projects and will be approved by concerning authorities.Second one was to create more awareness on "How to make applications".I was asked to take do the second job also, and this made me think of using this oppurtunity to promote kenai.
I was given an hour for each class to explain the required points and on each class I showed a demo using kenai. The demo was basically how to create a project in kenai, mercurial, issue tracker, mailing lists and so on.
I reached almost 500 students in classrooms and let them know about kenai. The entire day was rocking and I enjoyed it to the maximum.
Please don't expect gallery,no photos inside classrooms.
Thanks to sharat chander, who helped me in learning kenai, and Prof.K.S Ravichandran for the oppurtunity.
