Oracle again recognized with top score on Disability Equality Index

An essential part of Oracle’s commitment to an inclusive culture is to ensure that the company provides accommodations for our talent with disabilities so they can effectively succeed at Oracle without barriers.

That’s why Oracle is extremely proud to again have achieved the top score of 100 out of 100 on the 2022 Disability Equality Index (DEI)—a benchmarking tool stemming from a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Disability:IN that measures both successes and areas of improvement. This score highlights an ongoing global commitment to inclusivity. This year’s recognition marks the third successive year Oracle has achieved a score of 100.

“We have an unwavering commitment to provide reasonable accommodations to employees and potential talent interviewing for roles,” says Traci Wade, Oracle vice president, and global head of diversity and inclusion. “Often, to ensure an employee feels valued, Oracle is providing the proper access to succeed with investments in accessibility, assistive tools, and training our management on the best ways to support our disabled talent.”

But there is always more work to be done to raise the bar for disability inclusion—and Oracle has plans to build on its continued success. “We want to ensure people with disabilities are supported at Oracle and able to reach the highest level of success that their talent and effort can take them,” Wade says.

For example, consider the case of Oracle employee Cosmo Trikes. After skiing accident left him paralyzed, Trikes persevered and went to college to pursue two degrees to combine his lifelong passion for technology and his dream of one day having a career in high tech. Despite this hard work, Trikes didn’t think he would find himself in contention for an Oracle internship when he was studying electrical and computer engineering at Michigan Technological University.

But his resume landed at Oracle after he attended a Disability:IN conference and, though he admits he doubted himself at the time, his aptitude and tremendous capacity to contribute were apparent. Before long, Trikes was shining as one of our brightest software engineering interns.

“We really appreciate Disability:IN for introducing us to Cosmo, who continues to shine at Oracle, no longer as an intern, but as a full-time software engineer,” says Wade. “Workers with disabilities must be able to thrive fully in our workforce and be valued as members of our diverse and inclusive dynamic teams.”
