We updated the LAF of the OTN homepage a scotch today (pronounced "scowtch"), as an old colleague of mine used to say.Nothing major, but we did want to make it a bit easier to read and expose a wider cross section of community activity; there is no more room for headlines, downloads, and blogs.Hope ya like it.

Oracle Database XE + Ruby on Rails is an increasingly tasty combination. A whole slew of new content re: this combo is forthcoming from OTN, with the first being the "Oracle+Ruby on Rails FAQ" - an excellent introduction.Look for future articles about the Active Record persistence engine - of particular interest to those developing RoR apps on top of Oracle - as well as the use of Ruby scripts in conjunction with Oracle.Add to recent articles such as "Ruby on Rails on Oracle:...

I think we hit a nerve: since its release on Nov 19, the Oracle DBA Toolbar is the seventh most popular OTN download (thus far) - and we haven't even touched the Linux community yet (via the FireFox extension in the works). Well over 10,000 downloads thus far.I'm happy to say that we have a miniscule number of reported problems, but it is possible that your local configuration will adversely affect the installation process or runtime. (Your mileage will vary.)

This is a good week for OTN users: on the heels of the "Greatest Hits" CD download, today we are releasing the 2006 incarnation of the Oracle DBA Toolbar. As you might expect, this IE add-in (we're working on a Firefox extension as well) gives you one-click access to important OTN content like downloads and doc, as well as the standard popup blocker. But even better, it includes an integrated RSS manager that in essence allows your toolbar to function as an RSS client. Oracle...

In my time staffing the OTN Lounge at Oracle OpenWorld (that Friday AM actually), a particular customer question was asked so many times that it was literally ringing in my ears: "Do you have any more 'Greatest Hits' CDs?" The answer at the time, unfortunately, was "No - but check the OTN website in a few weeks for a downloadable ISO."I'm happy to report that this download is now available, as promised.

(Still yet to be determined is the extent of integration with Oracle SES to be achieved.) And then, out to the community for feedback! Some more screenshots:If you happened to stumble upon the Oracle SES demo pod at Oracle OpenWorld, you may have gotten a look at this yourself courtesy of the Siderean guys, who were actually...

Oracle Magazine has published its 2006 "Editor's Choice" Awards for Developers, Oracle ACE, and Blogger of the Year. Special congrats to Tim Hall (Oracle ACE of the Year) and Eddie Awad (Blogger of the Year)! These two really create a lot of the "mortar" that holds the Oracle community together.

OK, so Oracle OpenWorld 2006 is a wrap.IMO, this was clearly a "consolidation" show. At no point did I sense any confusion or discomfort among attendees, whereas last year -- on the heels of the PSFT acquisition's close -- these feelings were literally "in the air" (in regards to Oracle as well as the event itself!). In fact, this year's conference almost had a pleasing dullness about it; the kind of dullness you appreciate after returning home from a very long and hectic...
