I haven't seen too much about them in the trade press yet, but Oracle did make some important security-related announcements at IOUG yesterday.
The most important is the release of Oracle Database Vault, a new option to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 EE, that enables you to restrict access to rows, tables, or entire applications on a user level (based on various business rules). This provides an answer to the "dirty little secret" that most security threats originate from malicious internal employees, many of whom are super-users. (Remember the AOL employee who downloaded and sold millions of customer records?) This is a pretty big deal.
The other announcement involves the availability of Oracle Secure Backup, a new standalone product that extends information security to tape backups. You can download it right now from OTN.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see the "real" Nashville (even the Grand Ole Opry isn't even downtown anymore), but maybe next time.
