Comments:

Does the new portlet container implement any optional features of JSR-286 such as portlet-managed modes or escapeXML/header container runtime options? If not, are you planing to implement them?

Currently the portlet container does support some optional features like escapeXML container runtime option, markup head elements, few container events. As of now i am not planning to implement portlet-managed modes. But i am planning to implement renderHeaders, few more container events etc..

In the future could you compare open portal to PDK? Wizard based business logic etc..

Sure. Now you can use Netbeans Portal Pack ( http://portalpack.netbeans.org ) to develop and test the portlets on the OpenPortal Portlet Container.
