Starting in October 2017, Oracle Database Exadata Express Cloud Service now supports usage by the hour, purchasing via Oracle Cloud Universal Credits, and free credit-based trials. The service also adds new larger shapes to meet strong customer demand for increased processing power and expanded database storage.
Support for Universal Credits in Exadata Express gives customers maximum flexibility and durability in how they pay for and consume the service. Universal Credits customers can start or stop Exadata Express at any time, spending their credits only for hours when the service is actively in use. These flexible credits can be applied to Exadata Express, other Oracle Cloud services, and future Oracle Cloud services yet to be released. Using Exadata Express X20 for one day (8 hours) costs less than USD $3 of credits. An ongoing promotion gives prospective customers USD $300 of free credits so they can "try before you buy" with Exadata Express and other services.
Additionally, new larger Exadata Express shapes are now available in direct response to customer requests. As customer use cases for a fully managed cloud Oracle Database continue to expand and data being managed continues to grow, customers want to execute ever more demanding database workloads in Exadata Express. The new larger shapes will deliver greater ability for Exadata Express customers to scale. They provide up to a maximum of 4 cores (bare metal Exadata compute), 40GB of RAM (Oracle Database SGA and PGA), and 1TB of Exadata storage. The shapes can be purchased by the hour using Universal Credits. New purchases also include a free bundled instance of Oracle Developer Cloud Service. A summary of current shapes and pricing is below.
