What is being announced?

PURPOSE
-------

To provide customers with z/OS(OS/390)-specific patch and patchset information.

SCOPE & APPLICATION
-------------------

The information provided is sourced from Z/OS Diagnostics and Defect Resolution.

A patch listed in this bulletin does not guarantee general availability.
Use the "Patches and Updates" button to query if a patch is available for download, or just click on the
highlighted patch number.

A "Patchset" relates to the same patchsets produced on other platforms, but
may additionally contain Z/OS-specific patches. IT DOES NOT REPLACE THE "BASE" PRODUCT in releases prior to 10,1.

An "Interim Patch" is a single patch created to provide a specific fix between the
release of patch sets.

A "Cumulative Patch" is one that fixes two or more problems, but will not replace a patchset.

A "Critical Patch Update" i.e CPU patch, is a bundle of high-priority fixes (usually for security issues) issued
once a quarter at the beginning of the quarter. CPU patches are cumulative with respect to prior security
fixes but may contain other fixes.

In addition, there may be individual bug fixes that are merged into a cumulative or CPU patch at a later date.

Thus a "STEPLIB" might reference:
- an individual bug fix (interim patch, also known as a one-off patch)
- cumulative patch
- one CPU patch
- one patchset
- the base library (prior to 10.1)

text.
