Still Working

Though you'd never know it by how frequently (or lack of frequency) with which I post to this weblog, I (we) are indeed still working on this project to define a "Next Generation" Thin Client. Of course, there are lots of politics involved, and lots of basic due-diligence and research, which is what we seem to be bogged down in right now. Well, I won't say the research is 'bogging' but the politics sure is. :-)

I'll keep working ... and try to keep posting.

Hi David -- I'm the editor in chief of Computerworld, and I was intruiged by your comment that there are a lot of political issues surrounding the next generation thin client. What sorts of things are you talking about?

I do hope that you keep in mind mobile devices, and lower bandwidth requirements. When X can run over an encrypted ssh tunnel at 64kbps, the Sun Ray's should not require upwards of 256kbps. If you can get it down to about 56kbps, you have something you can deliver to wireless systems over the existing cellular network here in the USA, and something you can truly blast about (and penetrate more deeply) into the higher-bandwdith markets of Japan and some of Europe's cell markets.

Dave. Is this different from the Tadpole Laptop-Sunray thing? An evolution of it? http://www.tadpolecomputer.com/html/products/mobile/comet
