ADB ACHIEVES MAA GOLD STATUS

OVERVIEW

With optimized high availability and data protection in mind, Autonomous Database Serverless can now deliver on Oracle MAA Gold tier recovery point and recovery time objectives (RPO and RTO). Using Autonomous Data Guard allows one or more standby databases to be deployed and configured with just a few simple clicks. This disaster recovery configuration will then be maintained by OCI infrastructure adhering to optimized MAA best practices to ensure the highest availability and resiliency.

WHAT IS GOLD MAA? With the Gold MAA tier, the goal is to align with a 99.995% uptime SLA with zero or near-zero data loss, meaning there is very little room for downtime from a planned maintenance perspective and unexpected outages. This level of resiliency can protect environments in the case of a disaster from both a local and regional perspective.

SLO FOR ZERO REGRESSIONS DUE TO PATCHING

OVERVIEW

Oracle Autonomous Database Serverless automatically applies patches containing both bug and security fixes during the maintenance windows. Oracle now provides a service level objective of zero regressions (i.e., issues introduced by patches or updates to the Autonomous Database performed during the maintenance window) in production databases.

HOW IT WORKS Using the Early patch level option, any issues must be reported through service requests. Oracle will use commercially reasonable efforts to address the problems reported so that the same issues do not occur in production databases. Step 1 - Create a test/pre-prod database using the early patch-level option Step 2 - Run workload tests Step 3 - Report any issues via service requests Step 4 - Oracle will work to ensure issues are addressed before the patch is applied to production databases.

Autonomous Database is the only database service on the market that promises zero regressions!

CALL POWERFUL CLOUD FUNCTIONS DIRECTLY FROM SQL

OVERVIEW

It is now effortless to call cloud functions in SQL queries using User Defined Functions. Cloud functions provide a cost-effective way to support business-specific code since you only pay for resources consumed during function execution. An ADB User Defined Function forms a wrapper containing logic, transformations, and functionality that helps extend the capabilities of SQL. ADB's DBMS_CLOUD package invokes cloud functions deployed in the cloud, such as on OCI (OCI Functions) or AWS (Lambda).

MORE SECURE ACCESS TO CLOUD RESOURCES AND OTHER DATABASES

OVERVIEW

External calls from ADB-S (such as creating database links, calling web services, sending emails, or accessing cloud object stores) require you to create a credential object (which consists of a username/password pair) via DBMS_CLOUD.CREATE_CREDENTIAL for authentication purposes. This new feature lets you store your passwords for such credentials as a secret in OCI Vault, Azure Key Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, or GCP Secret Manager.

BENEFIT - LOWER RISK

It is no longer necessary to replicate passwords in ADB instances. Passwords can be stored as a secret that can be pointed to by all ADB instances. The key benefit is easy and efficient password rotation! Rotate passwords directly in the secret store, which will then be automatically reflected across ADB instances. Passwords can be stored in the secret store of choice and encrypted with your own encryption keys.
