CUSTOMER MANAGED ENCRYPTION KEYS

NEW - ADB Now Supports Use Of Customer-Managed Encryption Keys

If you have security policies that require the use of customer-managed encryption keys, it is now possible to configure ADB to use an OCI Vault master encryption key.

NOTE: The customer-managed encryption key is stored in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Vault, external to the database host. If the customer-managed encryption key is disabled or deleted, the database will be inaccessible.

TRANSPARENT APPLICATION CONTINUITY

NEW: ADB-Shared Now Supports Transparent Application Continuity

Icon of a programmer/ developer

Application Continuity hides outages for thin Java-based applications, Oracle Database Oracle Call Interface, and ODP.NET based applications along with support for open-source drivers, such as Node.js, and Python.

TAC transparently tracks and records session and transactional state so the database session can be recovered following recoverable outages. This is done with no reliance on application knowledge or application code changes

OCI RESOURCE PRINCIPAL

NEW: Accessing OCI Resources using Resource Principal

OCI Resource Principal icon

ADB-Shared now supports OCI resource principal authentication. OCI resource principal is a part of Oracle Identity and Access Management (IAM) that eliminates the need to create and configure OCI user credential objects. The resource principle authorizes an OCI resource to make API calls to certain OCI services (e.g. Object Storage) and this authorization is established through dynamic groups and IAM policies.

AMAZON RESOURCE NAMES

NEW: Use Amazon Resource Names (ARNs) to Access AWS Resources

When you use ARN role-based authentication with Autonomous Database, you can securely access AWS resources without creating and saving credentials based on long-term AWS IAM access keys.

For example, you may want to load data from an AWS S3 bucket into your Autonomous Database, perform some operation on the data, and then write the modified data back to the S3 bucket. You can do this without using an ARN if you have AWS user credentials to access the S3 bucket.

RMAN

NEW: Autonomous Database As An RMAN Recovery Catalog

icon for database backup in the cloud

You can use Oracle Autonomous Database as a Recovery Manager (RMAN) recovery catalog. A recovery catalog is a database schema that RMAN uses to store metadata about one or more Oracle databases.

Recovery Manager (RMAN) recovery catalog is preinstalled in Autonomous Database in schema RMAN$CATALOG. The preinstalled catalog version is based on the latest version of Oracle Database and is compatible with all supported Oracle database versions.
