Sun and HP Oracle Database Machine

Ok, before you all get excited and make up all sorts of cool stories, better to go to the source and figure out what is going on.

First of all, the following is the only place where you hear the real story: http://www.oracle.com/sun/sun-faq.pdf

To save you time, this is the statement on Oracle Exadata taken directly and verbatim (!!) from the FAQ linked above:

Q: What impact does this announcement have on the HP Oracle Exadata Storage Server and HP Oracle Database Machine products?

A: There is no impact. Oracle remains fully committed to the HP Oracle Exadata Storage Server and HP Oracle Database Machine products.

That's all folks.

Comments:

JP, Though its being said there is no impact to Exadata, what remains to be seen is how quickly Solaris makes it as one of the supported OS for Database machine as in 11.1.0.7 only Linux is supported. The visual showing the full stack now from Oracle already changed from Linux to Solaris/Linux! I am waiting to see what will replace the slogan "Oracle and Linux is unbreakable combination." Thanks Shyam

So no plan to have a Solaris/Sparc database machine... Probably no plan as well to have Oracle Enterprise Linux on Sparc plateform. Not much surprised actually, it is different world ;)

Larry just commented in this interview: http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssTechMediaTelecomNews/idUSN0740285120090507 Interesting read in general, but do look at the last question in the interview.
