A Recap of the Data Integration Track's Final Day in OpenWorld 2014

Last week during OpenWorld, my colleague Madhu provided a summary of the first 3 days of the Data Integration track in his blog post: Data Integration At OOW14 -Recapping days 1,2 and 3Today I would like to mention a few key sessions we presented on Thursday.

We kicked off the last day of OpenWorld with the cloud topic. In the Oracle Data Integration: A Crucial Ingredient for Cloud Integration [CON7926] session Julien Testut from Data Integration product management team presented with Sumit Sarkar from Progress DataDirect. Julien provided an overview of the various data integration solutions for cloud deployments, including integration between databases and applications hosted on cloud,  as well as loading cloud BI infrastructures. Sumit followed Julien with a live demo using Oracle Data Integrator and the Progress DataDirect JDBC drivers for loading and transforming data on Amazon Redshift, and extracting data from Salesforce.com. All of us in the audience were amazed that the demo worked seamlessly using only the OpenWorld wi-fi network.

For Oracle GoldenGate we had 2 key sessions on Thursday:

Achieving Zero Downtime During Oracle Applications Upgrades and System Migrations was in the Fusion Middleware AppAdvantage track and featured Oracle GoldenGate’s zero downtime upgrades and migration solution with customer Symantec and partner Pythian. In this session, Doug Reid presented GoldenGate's 3 different deployment models for zero downtime application upgrades.  In his slides, Doug highlighted GoldenGate’s certified solution for Siebel CRM, and mentioned the support for zero downtime application upgrade for JD Edwards and Billing and Revenue Management (BRM) as well. Following Doug, Symantec’s Rohit Muttepawar, came to stage and talked about their database migration project for their critical licensing database. And Pythian’s  Gleb Otochkin and Luke Davies presented how using Oracle GoldenGate in a 6-node active-active replication environment helped Western Union in achieving application releases with zero downtime, database patches and upgrades with zero downtime, and a real-time reporting database with no impact to online users.

The other key GoldenGate session was Managing and Monitoring Oracle GoldenGate. Joe deBuzna in the GoldenGate product management team provided an overview of the new monitoring and management capabilities included in the Oracle GoldenGate Plug-in for Enterprise Manager, and Oracle GoldenGate Monitor. Both of these products are included in the Oracle Management Pack for Oracle GoldenGate license. With the new 12c release,  they can now control the starting, stopping and configuration of existing Oracle GoldenGate processes, and include many new metrics that strengthen how users can monitor their Oracle GoldenGate deployments.

The Data Integration track at OpenWorld closed with " Insight into Action: Business Intelligence Applications and Oracle Data Integrator". Jayant Mahto from ODI Development team, and Gurcan Orhan from Wipro Technologies focused  on the Oracle BI Applications latest release that embeds Oracle Data Integrator for data loading and transformations, and provides the option to use Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data feeds into the reporting environment. The session highlighted how the new Oracle BI Apps release provides greater strategic insight quickly, efficiently, and with a low total cost of ownership, as well as the role Oracle Data Integrator as the data integration foundation. Jayant and Gurcan presented how Oracle Data Integrator enables users to increase IT efficiency and reduce costs by increasing data transparency, easing setup and maintenance, and improving real-time reporting.

In case you missed it, I'd like to remind you on the press announcement that went out on September 29th and gives a summary of the key developments in the Fusion Middleware product family and Oracle's data integration offering. As mentioned in the press announcement, we have now a new offering for metadata management. An overview of this product was delivered in the “Oracle Data Integration and Metadata Management for the Seamless Enterprise [CON7923] session We will post a dedicated blog on this topic later in the week. Stay tuned for more on that.

Zero Downtime Consolidation to Oracle Database 12c: Webcast Recap

As companies move to private cloud implementations to increase agility and reduce costs, and start their plans with consolidating their databases, a major question arises: how do we move our systems without causing major disruption to the business. At the end, the most important systems that need to move to this new architecture are the ones that cannot tolerate extensive downtime for any reason. In last week’s webcast “Zero Downtime Consolidation to Oracle Database 12c with Oracle GoldenGate 12c” we tackled this specific dilemma that IT organizations face. The webcast is now available on demand via the link above in case you missed it last week.

In the webcast, we started discussing the benefits companies achieve when they consolidate to a private database cloud, critical database capabilities to deliver database as a service, and a quick overview Oracle Database 12c features that enable private database clouds deployments. Nick Wagner, director of product management for Oracle Database High Availability, talked about the new Global Data Services feature in Oracle Database Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) as well. Global Data Services helps organizations to handle challenges involved with managing multiple database replicas across different sites. The product manages database replicas of Active Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate products, and offers workload balancing to maximize performance as well as intelligent handling of outages using all available replicas. Nick also discussed the database features available for upgrading, migrating, and consolidating into Oracle Database 12c and when it makes sense to use Oracle GoldenGate for these efforts.

After Nick, Chai Pydimukkala from senior director of product management for GoldenGate discussed some of the key new features of Oracle GoldenGate 12c for Oracle Database and its expanding heterogeneity that supports consolidation from all major databases. Chai continued his presentation with GoldenGate’s solution architecture for zero downtime consolidation and explained how it minimizes risk with failback option as well as via the phased migration option by running old and new environments concurrently.

Chai also gave an example on how Oracle Active Data Guard customers can seamlessly use GoldenGate for a zero downtime migration without affecting their standby system for high ongoing high availability and disaster recoery. After customer examples we had a long Q&A section. For the full presentation and Q&A with the experts you can watch the on-demand version of the webcast via the following link.

Zero Downtime Consolidation to Oracle Database 12c with Oracle GoldenGate 12c

In the rest of this blog post, I provided  answers to some of the questions we could not take in the live event.

1) Additional difference in features between GoldenGate 11g and 12c?

Please take a look at our previous blog posts below where we discussed many of the new features of GoldenGate 12c.

· Advanced Replication for The Masses – Oracle GoldenGate 12c for the Oracle Database.

· GoldenGate 12c - What is Coordinated Delivery?

You can also listen to our podcast: Unveiling Oracle GoldenGate 12c

More comprehensive information can be found in the webcast replay  Introducing Oracle GoldenGate 12c: Extreme Performance Simplified or GoldenGate 12c resource kit.

2) Does GoldenGate have a term license that customer can purchase for migration purposes?

We do offer 1 year license that customer can be used for this purposes.

3) Is there a Oracle Tutorial on configuring and testing Zero downtime upgrade using GoldenGate?

Here is a high level outline/tutorial for the migration. It will require some knowledge of how to setup GoldenGate and configuration.

Oracle GoldenGate Best Practice: Oracle Migrations and Upgrades 9i and up

A more broad discussion of this topic can be found in the following white paper. Zero Downtime Database Upgrades using Oracle GoldenGate 12c

4) If the number of updates to the database is very high, does GoldenGate give some kind of compression to transfer the Trail Files and be up to date with the changes?

Oracle GoldenGate does provide support of compress of change data in the Trail File to better the transfer throughput from source to target with the usage of COMPRESS and COMPRESSTHRESHOLD.

RMTHOST

{host_name | IP_address}

{, MGRPORT port | PORT port}

[, COMPRESS]

[, COMPRESSTHRESHOLD]

[, ENCRYPT algorithm [KEYNAME key_name]]

[, PARAMS collector_parameters]

[, STREAMING | NOSTREAMING]

[, TCPBUFSIZE bytes]

[, TCPFLUSHBYTES bytes]

[, TIMEOUT seconds]

COMPRESS

This option is valid for online or batch Capture processes and any Oracle GoldenGate initial-load method that uses Trails. Compresses outgoing blocks of records to reduce bandwidth requirements. Oracle GoldenGate decompresses the data before writing it to the Trail. COMPRESS typically results in compression ratios of at least 4:1 and sometimes better. However, compressing data can consume CPU resources.

COMPRESSTHRESHOLD

This option is valid for online or batch Capture processes and any Oracle GoldenGate initial-load method that uses trails. Sets the minimum block size for which compression is to occur. Valid values are from 0 and through 28000. The default is 1,000 bytes.

5) Can the Source system utilize 12C GoldenGate for DML/DDL capture and target system utilize GoldenGate 11g?

Yes.  You can replicate from a higher version of GoldenGate to a lower version using FORMAT RELEASE option.

FORMAT RELEASE <major>.<minor>

In the on demand replay of the webcast you will find more questions answered by our product management experts. So make sure to watch the on demand webcast as well.

No Way Out, But to Consolidate

IT teams receive pressures on multiple fronts: Business groups demand new application services delivered faster and continuous, high-quality IT service to support highly dynamic and competitive business operations. In the meanwhile IT teams are asked to reduce costs and improve ROI from existing systems in highly complex and siloed environments.

In the midst of this conundrum, the only way out for IT leadership is to consolidate and leverage cloud architecture. Especially consolidation at the database level and implementing a private database-as-a-service (DBaaS) environment is a transformative approach to delivering database functionality to end users in an agile, efficient, and scalable way.  It helps organizations improve resource utilization, and lower both capital and operational expenditures.

Oracle Database 12c is designed to support database consolidation with many new features for deploying shared database environment. The new multitenant architecture, simplified management capabilities, improvements to security and compliance, along with robust and flexible Maximum Availability Architecture, are only a few of the key differentiators.

While this all sounds good and logical for IT teams, when it comes to moving to a private database cloud, they face yet another major challenge: How do we move our critical systems to a new environment without interrupting our operations. In today’s 24/7 world, especially customer-facing systems cannot tolerate hours or days of downtime. For some of them, even few minutes of downtime can bring high costs to the business. As in each major project, risk involved with moving to a new system is a real deterrent factor too.

Oracle GoldenGate 12c offers the core capabilities to enable this major move to a database as a service environment. With its optimized support for Oracle Database 12c multitenant architecture and heterogeneous data replication capabilities, Oracle GoldenGate allows organizations to avoid business disruption while the systems are moving to a consolidated, DBaaS environment. In addition, Oracle GoldenGate offers a failback option to the old environment, or a phased migration option by running old and new systems simultaneously in active-active mode, to minimize risks. Oracle GoldenGate’s heterogeneity includes all major database vendors and operating systems including SQL Server, DB2 (LUW, z/Os, iSeries), Sybase ASE, HP NonStop and more.

In our webcast Zero Downtime Consolidation to Oracle Database 12c with Oracle GoldenGate 12c on May 13th 10am PT we will present this solution with specific architecture examples and comparison to other database upgrade options.

Zero Downtime Consolidation to Oracle Database 12c with Oracle GoldenGate 12c

Oracle GoldenGate AppAdvantage in Action at Land O’Lakes, Smuckers, and Veolia Water

On Tuesday at OpenWorld we had the honor to host a panel with GoldenGate customers: Land O’Lakes, Smuckers, and Veolia Water. Besides giving us yummy nutrition and healthy water, these companies have another aspect in common. They all use GoldenGate to boost their ERP application.

Veoila Water’s Pierre Kerrinckx came from their HQ in France for this panel and spoke to us about the database migration project for their JD Edwards ERP system. Using GoldenGate Veolia was able to migrate from Oracle Database 10gR2 on Aix 5.3 Oracle 10g R2 to Oracle Database Aix 7.1 Oracle 11g R2 and did so with only 2 hours of interruption to JD Edwards end users. Pierre mentioned, the other benefit of GoldenGate was the ability to switch back to the old environment if needed.

Land O’Lakes’ Mark Kohls talked about their use of GoldenGate for their JD Edwards ERP system supporting the Purina business line. Land O’Lakes had to migrate enterprise-wide JDE Xe ERP system to new database and application server platform with minimal downtime to the business. While their goal was to have less than 8 hours of downtime, with GoldenGate they limited downtime to 30 minutes.

Both Veolia and Land O’Lakes used GoldenGate in an Active-Passive fashion, meaning that the new environment was not used simultaneously with the old one, and the users migrated all at once. GoldenGate provides Active-Active migration model too, if the company prefers to do a phased migration and truly zero downtime.

Smuckers's Neal Indermuhle had a different story to share. He talked about operational reporting for their critical Oracle E-Business Suite and how using Oracle GoldenGate helped the company to achieve the near real-time data they need in making critical business decisions. Neil shared that the replication latency averages less than 10 seconds and Oracle GoldenGate Veridata is leveraged to validate synchronization.

I would like to thank Pierre, Mark, and Neal for sharing their best practices, and taking tough questions from the audience. If you would like to learn more about Oracle GoldenGate’s solutions for JD Edwards, E-Business Suite and other key Oracle Applications please check out our new resource center with recorded video presentations and detailed white papers.

Upgrading Oracle Siebel CRM Application Without Downtime

Oracle’s Siebel Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software helps organizations differentiate their businesses to achieve top- and bottom-line growth. Siebel CRM delivers comprehensive solutions that are tailored to more than 20 different industries. As Siebel CRM implementations have evolved into mission critical, operational business processes that must operate 24/7, companies are finding it increasingly difficult to afford the downtime typically required to perform an in-place upgrade. Without these upgrades, businesses loose out on critical new features and functionality.

With Oracle GoldenGate, customers don’t have to choose between upgrades and outages. Oracle GoldenGate allows Siebel CRM customers to perform upgrades with zero downtime. Now Siebel customers can always take advantages of the latest innovations in customer relationship management without having to worry about potential lost revenue due to downtime.

Oracle GoldenGate provides three different deployment models for Siebel CRM zero downtime upgrades that are designed to meet differing customer requirements. These range from a basic unidirectional model, which is designed to work out-of-the-box, to the most sophisticated active-active model for phased migrations.

If you have mission-critical Siebel CRM implementations I recommend that you watch the screencast below to learn how you can begin taking advantage of all the latest Siebel enhancements without having any downtime.

What Comes Next After You Decide on Using Oracle Exadata

As Oracle Exadata continues to expand its footprint for both transaction and analytical processing, moving existing systems to Exadata and feeding it with enterprise data on an ongoing basis have become important discussion topics for Exadata customers. Consolidation and migration is the first step of this powerful journey with Exadata, and I'd like to start there in today's blog post.

The systems that benefit from Exadata's extreme performance and reliability are typically business-critical systems that carry major risks when it comes to migration. Any downtime or data loss can have significant impact to the business in terms of revenue generation, customer loyalty, and productivity. As Oracle GoldenGate user community knows well, GoldenGate's heteregenous, real-time, and bidirectional replication capabilities enable very strong zero downtime migration and consolidation solutions for major databases and platforms including Oracle, IBM DB2 (zOS, iSeries, and LUW), HP NonStop, SQL Server, Sybase ASE, MySQL, and Teradata.

We discussed GoldenGate's zero downtime migration to Exadata offering and best practices with our customer IQNavigator in a webcast that is now available on demand:

Zero-Downtime Migration to Oracle Exadata Using Oracle GoldenGate: A Customer Case Study

If you have not watched it, I highly recommend listening to the discussion, as it clearly explains there should be no concerns around causing business interruption when moving to Oracle Exadata using GoldenGate.  GoldenGate's failback option to the old environment is a great tool for minimizing risk and many organizations adopt that approach for their business-critical systems.

In addition to migration to Oracle Exadata, customers use GoldenGate, and Oracle Data Integrator, with Exadata in a variety ways leveraging the natural fit between these technologies:

  • Active-active database synchronization across the globe for data distribution, continuous availability, and zero downtime maintenance purposes.
  • Real-time or near real-time data loading to data warehouse, or consolidated database, on Oracle Exadata from heterogeneous sources. Oracle Data Integrator plays the major role in this use case as it integrates with GoldenGate and loads data warehouse in near real-time after performing transformations within the Exadata machine. This use case will be another blog topic soon as it is a strong best practice for performing ETL/ E-LT for Exadata.
  • Moving change data from an OLTP application running on Exadata in real time, for downstream consumption by other systems including supporting service integration.

As additional resources on best practices for migrating to Exadata I'd like to point you to couple of great white papers: Zero-Downtime Migration to Oracle Exadata Using Oracle GoldenGate and Oracle GoldenGate on Exadata Database Machine.

Near Zero Downtime Upgrades for Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management

Billing application is one of the key systems for a communications company. It is critical for not only revenue generation but also for customer experience.  Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management (BRM) solutions offers a flexible and reliable solution that helps service providers maximize customer value and profitability, and enhance business agility. Oracle BRM supports new business models including cloud, machine to machine (M2M), and mobile virtual network operators (MVNO).  Many of the world's leading, and innovative service providers—including France Telecom, Vodafone, Swisscom, Savvis, Sirius XM Satellite Radio and Nintendo, rely on the BRM application for their critical billing operations.

When it comes to upgrading a major system, such as BRM, things may get a bit tricky. Until recently there were only two approaches to upgrading BRM systems: In-place upgrades and the parallel system run. The in-place upgrade approach means the current BRM system would be shut down and brought back up after it is upgraded to the latest release of BRM. In addition to downtime, it puts heavy risk on the business. The parallel system run approach is an attempt in having two BRM systems running live in parallel. Unfortunately, this approach could only keep a portion of the data in-sync between the two systems as not all data feeds could be applied to both databases. Both of these approaches to upgrade resulted in downtime, which is not desirable for a system that drives revenue and impacts customer experience directly.

Oracle GoldenGate offers a third approach to upgrade BRM systems and fortunately this new solution delivers near zero downtime and minimized risk.  Using GoldenGate's real-time data replication capability IT teams can create a full copy of the new BRM system on the latest software release without impacting the current BRM system. End users can use the old version, while a parallel system can be upgraded to the newest version of the release, kept in synch in real time with the active database, and tested thoroughly without time pressure before end users switch over to the upgraded BRM instance. GoldenGate's failback option also mitigates the risk to the business during the upgrade process. Oracle GoldenGate’s unique software platform does not require any changes to the source BRM system and uses minimal system resources. The solution supports BRM clients running BRM 7.2 or higher.

This is a very powerful solution for BRM users and we decided to explain the solution in depth via a screencast to help BRM users understand the new method better. If you have a mission-critical BRM system I highly recommend watching the screencast below to learn the detailed implementation steps.

You can watch the screencast also on Oracle Media Network, or Oracle's YouTube account. We have a white paper Near Zero Downtime Upgrade for Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management (BRM) Application that you can download for more information as well.

Türk Telekom Saves Big and Improves Performance with Real-Time Archiving Solution

Written by:

Serkan KARATAS, Database Division Manager, Türk Telekom

Sandrine Riley, Oracle Data Integration Product Management

Türk Telekom--a leading communication and convergence technology company in Turkey and the country’s most valuable brand for the last four years according to Brand Finance--provides fixed line communications and broadband internet services. The company, which was founded in 1994 by separating from Posta ve Telgraf Teşkilatı, the national post and telegraph directorate of Turkey, owns more than 14.3 million fixed access lines—nearly all fixed access lines in Turkey—and 7 million asymmetric, digital subscriber lines.

Challenges and Goals

Türk Telekom’s challenge came with growth in becoming a leader in their industry. Customer relationship, sales, marketing, and finance departments needed accurate, timely, and well reported data from the organization's core CRM, billing and payment systems. Unfortunately, the overall data latency, movement, and accuracy were not optimal. The reports needed by these departments were critical for business practices around debt tracking and collecting, detecting of revenue leakages, overall churn prevention, as well as revenue assurance controls. In addition, these reports needed to incorporate online real-time data as well as historical data. In response to the challenges it faced, Türk Telekom set out to build a solution where reports would be delivered on time with maximum performance, leveraging all the appropriate data for better data analysis relevant to the critical business processes. Initially, the team tried to serve all the reports from core OLTP systems, quickly realizing they suffered from performance issues. They needed to reduce the amount of data on the OLTP system, and have the ability to report leveraging the historical data, all at the same time. Additionally, unplanned downtime with the systems was becoming an issue, and the need for data archiving became apparent.

Solution and Results

Türk Telekom was familiar with GoldenGate, as they had used it for their real-time data warehouse, as well as for some zero downtime migrations. Pleased with their prior results, they embarked on a new project in using Oracle GoldenGate for online archiving. This may very well be the first implementation of its kind in the market. Oracle GoldenGate is used to replicate the data to the archive database with near real-time latency, with the ability to purge historical data from the core OLTP database without replicating the purge activity to the archive database. Unlike other archiving solutions, the archive database contains not only historical data but also hot data, and, the archiving processes run while the systems are online and in real-time – not with offline scheduled batches.

Development and testing took about six months, and once this solution was implemented, it showed big results, very quickly. Within 1 month’s time of the solution’s go-live, full return on investment was achieved. Türk Telekom has saved approximately 55 million US dollars in revenue during just the first year ! The company has decreased overall churn rate due to debt by 60%, and has drastically increased OLTP performance by 10X. The business now has immediate access to sales, marketing and financial reports – providing the appropriate departments data to better handle debt tracking, and revenue leakages for example. As initially promised, the reports generated combine historical and real-time data as desired for the business.

Türk Telekom also saw many technical improvements based on this solution as well. 65% percent of disk space was saved once the historical data was archived. Storage and back-up costs shrunk by 40%, and maintenance costs of the production database decreased by 50%. Overall, the systems are more flexible and perform better with the use of Oracle GoldenGate.

But that isn’t all. Türk Telekom is not finished using Oracle GoldenGate. Future projects include: archiving large log tables and transaction tables on the OLTP database for Siebel and Oracle SOA Suite applications in use, directing all application reports to the archive database and totally removing the workload on the OLTP database, as well as wanting to use the archive database as the source for GoldenGate replication to configure cascading replication from the archive database. While lots of work is ahead for the team at Türk Telekom – their success and desire for more of it is very motivating!

Sabre Manages Fast Data Growth with Oracle Data Integration Products

Last year at OpenWorld we announced Sabre Holding as a winner of the Fusion Middleware Innovation Awards. The Sabre team did an excellent job at leveraging cutting edge technologies for managing rapid data growth and exponential scalability demands they have experienced in the travel industry.

Today we announced the details and specific benefits of Sabre’s new real-time data integration solution in a press release. Please take a look if you haven’t seen it yet. Sabre Holdings Deploys Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle GoldenGate to Support Rapid Customer Growth

There are 3 different areas of benefits Sabre achieved by using Oracle Data Integration products:

  • Manages 7X increase in data sources for the enterprise data warehouse
  • Reduced infrastructure complexity
  • Decreased time to market for new products and services by 30 percent.

This simply shows that using latest technologies helps the companies to innovate robust solutions against today’s key data management challenges. And the benefit of using a next generation data integration technology is not only seen in the IT operations, but also in the business side. A better data integration solution for the enterprise data warehouse delivered the platform they need to accelerate how they service their customers, improving their competitive advantage.

Tomorrow I will give another great example of innovation with next generation data integration from Oracle. We will be discussing the Fusion Middleware Innovation Awards 2012 winners and their results with using Oracle’s data integration products.

Oracle OpenWorld Update: Oracle GoldenGate for High Availability

One of our primary themes this year for the Oracle OpenWorld Sessions featuring Oracle GoldenGate is High Availability. This is a pretty wide theme, but the focus will be on ways of maximizing uptime for critical systems during planned and unplanned events.

We have a number of very informative sessions dedicated to exploring this theme in detail; from deep product implementation strategies up to lessons learned by our customers when using Oracle GoldenGate to meet strict SLAs.

We kick this track off with our Customer Panel on Zero Downtime Operations on Monday, which I overviewed in my last posting. This is followed by Comcast, who will be hosting a sessions at 1:45PM in Moscone West 3014. Their session will discuss using Oracle GoldenGate to reduce downtime during a database upgrade. Here’s an overview:

CON8571 - Oracle Database Upgrade with Oracle GoldenGate: Best Practices from Comcast

Does your business demand high availability? In this session, Comcast, among the largest telecom firms in the world, shares tips on how to achieve zero downtime while upgrading to Oracle Database 11g Release 2, using a combination of Oracle technologies: Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), Oracle Database’s Grid Infrastructure and Oracle Recovery Manager (Oracle RMAN) features, Oracle GoldenGate, and Oracle Active Data Guard. This successful upgrade took place on a mission-critical system that handles more than 60 million business requests and service calls a day. You’ll also hear how Comcast leverages Oracle Advanced Customer Support Services, including an Oracle Solution Support Center, to maximize performance and availability of its Oracle technologies.

On Tuesday, Joydip Kundu (Director of Software Development) will be presenting “Oracle GoldenGate and Oracle Data Guard: Working Together Seamlessly” at 10:15AM in Moscone South 3005. This session focuses on how both modes of Oracle GoldenGate extract (Classic and Integrated Capture) can be used with Oracle Data Guard for disaster recovery purposes or to offload extract processing.

That afternoon at 1:15PM Comcast takes the stage again to discuss firsthand lessons learned implementing Oracle GoldenGate in a heterogeneous, highly available environment. Here’s a rundown of their session:

CON8750 - High-Volume OLTP with Oracle GoldenGate: Best Practices from Comcast

Does your business demand high availability in a mission-critical environment? In this session, Comcast, one of the largest telecom firms, shares best practices for leveraging Oracle GoldenGate to replicate high-volume online transaction processing data from Tandem NSK SQL/MX to Teradata. Hear critical success factors from Comcast for overall platform and component architectures as well as configuration and tuning techniques. Learn how it met the challenges of replication in a complex heterogeneous environment. You’ll also hear how Comcast leverages Oracle Advanced Customer Support Services, including an Oracle Solution Support Center, to provide mission-critical support for maximized performance and availability of its Oracle environment.

The final session on the high availability track will be hosted by Patricia Mcelroy (Distinguished Product Manager) and Stephan Haisly (Principle Member of Technical Staff). Their session (CON8401 - Tuning and Troubleshooting Oracle GoldenGate on Oracle Database) covers techniques for performance tuning and troubleshooting of Oracle GoldenGate on Oracle Database. Using various types of workloads (OLTP, batch, Oracle’s PeopleSoft Enterprise), the presentation steps through the process of monitoring and troubleshooting the configuration to maximize performance and replication throughput within and between Oracle clouds.

Join us at our sessions or stop by our demo pods in Moscone south and meet the product management and development teams.  For additional information, please refer to the document Focus on Data Integration, which lists all things Data Integration at Oracle OpenWorld.
