Demystifying Data Federation
By Dain C. Hansen on Sep 23, 2008
Recently I put together an article on SOA Magazine to address key architectural questions around the subject of Data Federation.
The article "Demystifying Data Federation" unravels the mystery surrounding data federation, defines what the essential requirements for a data federation solution include and helps answer the challenging question of how data federation is considered a stepping stone to a successful SOA.
It also addresses how data quality and data profiling are so critical in bringing about manageable data services. In addition, this article addresses the impact of these emerging federation techniques on data warehousing, business intelligence applications, and composite SOA applications. We used industry data, architectural patterns in data integration, and compelling case studies that illustrate the importance of embracing this pattern of data federation.
Oracle also just unveiled an offering for Data Federation, entitled Oracle Data Service Integrator, formerly known as AquaLogic Data Services Platform from BEA. More information can be found on Oracle Data Service Integrator on Oracle's Data Integration Strategy page with links to OTN, downloads, datasheets, whitepapers and more.
I welcome your feedback, questions and comments on this article.
