Best Practices building Data Services with ODI-EE
By Dain C. Hansen on Jun 03, 2009
If you've been reading some of the earlier posts on best practices for loading Essbase using ODI. you can definitely respect how thorough John Goodwin is in his analysis and explanations. In the same spirit, John has taken a comprehensive look at some of the best practices for building out Data Services using ODI which I wanted to highlight:
• ODI Series – Web Services Part 1 - Discusses how to use axis2 web services with ODI and how to execute services using a SOAP utility.
• ODI Series – Web Services Part 2 - Walks through how to directly work with Java and the ODI web services
• ODI Series – Web Services Part 3 - Includes a step-by-step configuring data services using ODI. Specifically data services which are made up of web services against existing DataStores. The Data Service provides the ability to retrieve, update and delete data on a Data Store by using a Web Service.
• And finally ODI Series – Web Services Part 4 - Here John does something which I haven't seen ever done before which is how to build EPMA web services for integrating to Hyperion – I guess we should call these EPM Data Services?
In addition to John's post, I'm also including an Oracle By Example series on Data Services. The Oracle by Example series provides step-by-step instructions on how to perform a variety of tasks using ODI EE. These step-by-step solutions are built for practical real world situations to help you get on board using ODI EE quickly and helps dramatically reduce time to deployment. These examples are also focused on showcasing how to use ODI with BPEL which is an important way to build out data services.
