Oracle Database at Oracle OpenWorld 2014

Oracle OpenWorld is right around the corner and we are so excited to meet with our customers and partners in San Francisco!  We are putting the final touches on the .ppts, getting demos polished and really looking forward to hearing your stories!

  • Larry Ellison, CEO, Oracle
    Ellison's keynote address is expected to include Oracle's overall vision and direction as well as exciting new product news.
  • Andy Mendelsohn, Executive Vice President Database Server Technologies, Oracle (GEN7243)
    In his general session titled "What's New from Oracle Database Development?," Mendelsohn provides an overview of major database advancements in the previous 12 months, including Oracle Database In-Memory and Oracle Big Data SQL. He focuses on how these solutions help businesses improve their bottom lines with fast, real-time access to all data sources.
  • Juan Loaiza, Senior Vice President, Oracle (CON7247)
    In his session titled "Oracle Database In-Memory: The Next Big Thing," Loaiza explores Oracle Database In-Memory. He discusses in detail what motivated Oracle to develop this new technology, and provides an explanation of how its unique dual-format architecture works. Loaiza also focuses on how the new in-memory functionality interacts with key database performance features such as Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Partitioning, parallel execution, and much more.
  • Thomas Kyte and Steven Feuerstein, Architects, Oracle (CON9027)
    In this session titled "YesSQL! A Celebration of SQL and PL/SQL," Kyte and Feuerstein celebrate SQL, PL/SQL, and the people who develop and use these technologies. Kyte and Feuerstein are joined by special guests including Andy Mendelsohn, Maria Colgan, and others, who share stories of the impact Oracle technology has had on their lives and work. The bottom line: if developing Oracle Database applications is a big part of your life, this session should prove both fun and interesting.

  • Tom Kyte: Developers Rule the World (Again)
Way back in 1992, Oracle Database 7 was the programmer's database with stored procedures, triggers, precompilers, and so on. Then the introduction of the internet shifted the focus to operations, high availability, and related features. Kyte will explore how developers are taking control again and how Oracle Database is responding with new capabilities in the area of JavaScript object notation, new open source drivers, and much more.
  • Steven Feuerstein: The Whys and Wherefores of New PL/SQL Features in Oracle Database 12c
In this session Feuerstein examines a wide array of new features for PL/SQL developers. For example, the function result cache has been enhanced to support functions defined with invoker rights. Administrators can use the ACCESSIBLE BY clause to define whitelists of the program units that can execute subprograms in a package. And administrators can grant roles to PL/SQL program units rather than to schemas, delivering much greater access, control, and flexibility.
  • Maria Colgan: The Top Five Things to Know About Oracle Database In-Memory
This session explains in detail the top five things you need to know to get the most from Oracle Database In-Memory right out of the box. With easy-to-follow real-world examples, Colgan—Oracle's in-memory expert—explains exactly what steps to take to get up and running, and demonstrates the kinds of performance improvements to expect. Colgan always draws a big crowd, so this session is presented twice.
  • Patrick Wheeler: Multitenant: The Beating Heart of Database as a Service
As Wheeler puts it, Oracle Database as a service is built on three strong foundations: Oracle Multitenant as the enabling database architecture, Oracle Enterprise Manager for orchestration, and Oracle's engineered systems, such as Oracle Exadata and Oracle SuperCluster, as consolidation platforms. In this session, Wheeler explores how Oracle provides a total solution that truly delivers on the promise of database as a service.
  • Andrew Holdsworth: What the Real-World Performance Team Learns from Your Automatic Workload Repository Report
Workload Repository feature of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c have been used for many years to understand the health and characteristics of a database instance. They also reveal many other things you may not have thought of. Like Sherlock Holmes, Holdsworth reveals what other secrets can be deduced.

Oracle Customers Secure Critical Encryption Keys with Oracle Key Vault

Centrally Manage Oracle Database Encryption Master Keys, Oracle Wallets, Java KeyStores and Other Credential Files 

Encryption is widely recognized as the gold standard for protecting data privacy, but encryption is only as strong as its key management. Critical credential files such as Oracle Wallets, Java KeyStores, SSH key files and SSL certificate files are often widely distributed across servers and server clusters with error-prone synchronization and backup mechanisms. As organizations increasingly encrypt data at rest and on the network, securely managing all the encryption keys and credential files in the data center has become a major challenge.

At the same time, organizations also need to comply with stringent regulatory requirements for managing keys and certificates. Many global regulations and industry standards call for audits demonstrating that keys are routinely rotated, properly destroyed, and accessed solely by authorized entities.
