MediSwitch makes the switch to Oracle Database Appliance

MediSwitch chose Oracle Database Appliance over competing solutions to replace a legacy database system of hardware and software from many different providers.  Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing Wayne Botha, IT Manager of MediSwitch as he discussed their experience with Oracle Database Appliance.  Not only did they complete a complex migration using Oracle GoldenGate to facilitate a near zero downtime migration in a very short period of time they upgraded their database to Oracle Database 11g. Listen as Wayne describes how simple Oracle Database Appliance was to install and deploy and how the capacity-on-demand licensing played a key factor in their decision to purchase. Best of all they were able to consolidate all of their development testing and pre-production databases and can now use a single resource to patch everything in one go over their legacy system. Their big surprise was the significant performance benefit running reports that use to take 4 hours and now only take 45 minutes. If you are considering Oracle Database Appliance, you won't want to miss this podcast.

QuinnSite Report: Oracle Revolutionizes its Flagship Database for Multitenant Clouds

QuinnSite Research published its Technology Innovator Product Snapshot for Oracle Database 12c summarizing that Oracle Revolutionizes its Flagship Database for Multitenant Clouds

The Snapshot further says that Oracle Database 12c:

  • includes considerable innovation from largest thrust of R&D for Oracle’s flagship database
  • will help DBAs simplify their databases consolidation initiatives, while increasing hardware-related cost savings
  • sends competitors, old and new, back to the drawing board to find alternative angles to try to unseat Oracle
  • places Oracle firmly in the enterprise "database-as-a-service" market
  • provides rapid and simple provisioning and cloning of databases and containers to considerably reduce the length of development and test projects; resulting in faster time to market for external applications
  • allows for the tiering of database instances plugged into a container, meaning the DBA may develop database templates for different private cloud application classes for fast provisioning
