Reinventing Database Protection
During his opening keynote at Oracle OpenWorld 2014, Oracle Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer Larry Ellison announced the general availability of Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance, the world's first and only engineered system designed specifically for Oracle Database protection. This massively scalable appliance delivers unparalleled data protection, efficiency, and scalability.
Oracle's Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (Recovery Appliance) is
the first appliance ever to deliver zero data loss protection for
critical Oracle Databases. When using today’s solutions to restore a
database, businesses typically lose all data generated since the last
backup—often hours to days of critical data.
The Recovery Appliance dramatically reduces the impact of backups on production servers and networks, virtually eliminating the need for lengthy backup windows. The cloud-scale architecture enables a single Recovery Appliance to manage the data protection requirements of thousands of databases, avoiding the cost and complexity of disparate backup systems.

Big data promises big benefits to your organization, but real barriers exist in achieving these benefits. Today’s big data projects face serious challenges in terms of skills, application integration, and security. Oracle Big Data SQL radically reduces these barriers to entry, by providing unified query and management of data in Oracle Database, Hadoop, and beyond. In this session, you’ll learn how Oracle Big Data SQL uses SQL and Smart Scan technologies to make big data feel small. Additionally, you’ll learn how to use your existing skills and tools to get the biggest bang out of big data with Oracle Big Data SQL.
We'll see you soon in San Francisco!
We know it's a HUGE conference so we provide the following guide to ensure you are finding the database sessions and experts that will make your conference a success!
Don't-Miss Keynotes and General Sessions
Oracle Database Focus Area Thought Leaders
Top sessions from our thought-leaders to plan for include the following:
In this session Feuerstein examines a wide array of new features for PL/SQL developers. For example, the function result cache has been enhanced to support functions defined with invoker rights. Administrators can use the ACCESSIBLE BY clause to define whitelists of the program units that can execute subprograms in a package. And administrators can grant roles to PL/SQL program units rather than to schemas, delivering much greater access, control, and flexibility.
This session explains in detail the top five things you need to know to get the most from Oracle Database In-Memory right out of the box. With easy-to-follow real-world examples, Colgan—Oracle's in-memory expert—explains exactly what steps to take to get up and running, and demonstrates the kinds of performance improvements to expect. Colgan always draws a big crowd, so this session is presented twice.
As Wheeler puts it, Oracle Database as a service is built on three strong foundations: Oracle Multitenant as the enabling database architecture, Oracle Enterprise Manager for orchestration, and Oracle's engineered systems, such as Oracle Exadata and Oracle SuperCluster, as consolidation platforms. In this session, Wheeler explores how Oracle provides a total solution that truly delivers on the promise of database as a service.
Workload Repository feature of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c have been used for many years to understand the health and characteristics of a database instance. They also reveal many other things you may not have thought of. Like Sherlock Holmes, Holdsworth reveals what other secrets can be deduced.
Oracle Database Focus Areas
These "Focus On" docs summarize the sessions by database technology areas so if you have an interest in security, HA, storage, app dev, etc etc we've tried to collect all the sessions that will be applicable for you.
