Yesterday, Macy's Systems and Technology team based in Atlanta celebrated the 'GoLive' of Macy's intelligent merchandising application developed and deployed on Oracle Database Exadata Cloud on Oracle Cloud.
As part of Macy's plan to rejuvenate their stores and cater to the new tastes and shopping styles of their customers, they wanted to implement a cloud solution to meet their changing business needs prior to their peak holiday season. This meant really understanding their customers needs as far as size, color, and style to ensure their stories are stocked with merchandise that delights customers on their first visit.
Because of their past experience with the Oracle Database and with Oracle Engineered Systems on-premises they wanted to make sure they could deliver the same customer experience in the cloud. Their retail application requires not only good performance but predictable performance which allows them to manage their business more effectively. When they looked at other cloud vendors, performance was not very predictable which is too disruptive to their business. Only Oracle could meet their performance requirements for predictability.
Timing was also critical as they wanted to roll out their retail cloud application quickly while being careful about the installation, configuration, and security which ultimately led them to choose the Oracle Cloud. While they did look at other vendors cloud offerings, only Oracle was uniquely qualified to run their application on Oracle Database Exadata Cloud Service. More importantly, only Oracle could deliver a combination of database and infrastructure cloud services that provided Macy's with an integrated experience, not disparate parts that have to be stitched together into a solution. From the start to the finish Macy's implementation was completed in only 90 days. Macy's can now deliver a rich customer experience whether its customers are shopping in the store or online.
