Ecommerce ERP Integration Best Practices with Commerce Cloud

One of the top questions we get around Oracle Commerce Cloud is, “Can you integrate with “X” ERP system?” The short answer is Oracle Commerce Cloud is agnostic when it comes to ERP integrations.

Here are five things to know about ecommerce ERP integration with Oracle Commerce Cloud.

1. API-First Framework

Built with an API-first architecture, Commerce Cloud features an open, REST Web Services framework. Open APIs dramatically reduce integration time and cost when connecting to Oracle and/or third-party ERP systems. Oracle Commerce Cloud customers have integrated with Oracle ERP systems such as JD Edwards and EBS as well as third-party systems.

2. Common Integration Points

Typically, ERP systems manage a business’s core data. Some ERP systems also enable configuration of complex products, services, and bundles. The most common integration flows we see between commerce and ERP includes product data (catalog, pricing, inventory, configuration), customer data (account, profile, purchase history), and order data (fulfillment, invoicing).

3. REST Web Services Framework

Oracle Commerce Cloud ships with multiple REST APIs and Webhooks that apply to an ERP integration. Example REST APIs include create/get/update/delete catalog or get/update/delete inventory. Example Webhooks include order, return, or calculate shipping. All REST APIs and Webhooks are fully documented.

Oracle Integration Cloud Services (ICS)

Some organizations choose to perform a point-to-point connection between ERP and ecommerce, meaning no operational platform exists in the middle of your systems. While this often works as a short-term solution, organizations experiencing growth may experience limitations. For example, a point-to-point integration may require reconfiguration as needs evolve, such as adding new channels.

Oracle offers ICS to help solve these challenges and increase flexibility. ICS will help you simplify integration problems, deliver integrations faster, and ultimately provide a better customer experience.   ERP adapters for ICS include Oracle JDE, Oracle EBS, Oracle ERP Cloud, SAP and more.
