How to Start Remote Recruiting in 7 Steps

Recruitment has long been at the forefront of the technology and digitalisation of HR. Over the last 10-15 years, many new recruitment technologies have been brought to market. I recall first using monster.com back in the mid-1990s. Since then, resourcing technology has moved on at a pace, with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) being standard practice today, with machine learning and AI-enabled processes helping to facilitate candidate selection and screening. We also have online psychometrics and interviewing, and now recruitment gaming solutions are becoming the norm.

  • What are the most effective channels to market today to attract the right candidates to our organisation?
  • What do we know about our internal talent pool and succession plans – do we have the skills internally that could be redeployed/ retrained, as opposed to hired externally?
  1. Selection
  • What is my selection approach, and how does this change in a digital world?
  • How do I ensure no bias is in place?
  1. Appointment decision making
  • How do we as an organisation approach this?
  • Do we need to make any changes?
  1. Pre-employments check
  • How do we ensure this is completed remotely, and how do I control it?
  1. Onboarding – Particularly critical in a remote world when bringing new resources into the organisation
  • How do you help a new recruit to land when they are not able to meet their team, and colleagues face to face?
  • What learning do we have in place to replace classroom induction?
  • How do we control the induction process?
  • How do we help a new recruit navigate the organisation?
