Oracle WebCenter Content (WCC) has been a leader in the Enterprise Content Management space for many years now. Many customers have millions of files and documents stored in their WebCenter Content systems and often they have a requirement to move WCC instances from one data center to another or one machine to another for multiple reasons.

So, are you looking to move your Oracle WebCenter Content (including Imaging) Release 11g or 12c to another on-premise infrastructure or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)?

In the recent document that we have released around  “Migrating Oracle WebCenter Content(pdf) as well as the “Migrating Oracle WebCenter Content(HTML)” piece found in the WebCenter Content Book store, we lay out the fundamental provides (chghost tool and Template Builder functionality) to relocate or clone WebCenter Content instances quickly. You can use the chghost tool in WebCenter Content releases 12.2.1.3.0 and 12.2.1.4.0 if the new infrastructure is going to be exactly the same as the old one. The Template Builder method can be used in a wider variety of use cases for both WebCenter Content 11g and 12c releases.

The document provides solutions to clients facing situations like:

  • Migrating WebCenter Content Release 11g to Another On-Premise Infrastructure

  • Migrating WebCenter Content Release 12c to Another On-Premise Infrastructure

  • Migrating WebCenter Content Release 11g and 12c to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

This not only applies to multiple versions, but it also provides detailed steps to migrate WebCenter Content environment for clustered or Non-clustered Instances and Identical infrastructures as well as dissimilar infrastructures.

All in all, when doing a lift & shift of WebCenter Content, consider the below points:

  • Size of data and available connection bandwidth
  • Availability / Downtime
  • Integrations
  • Database and data sources
  • File systems

It is important to remember that if you are using other products in the same domain such as WebCenter Portal, Sites or Business Process Management, make sure that their instructions are also considered. Also note, that this “Migrating Oracle WebCenter Contentdocument only covers WebCenter Content including Imaging.

Many customers have already gone through this process of lifting and shifting their WCC instance to another data center or OCI easily with very minimal effort. In return, they have reaped the benefits of increasing their business agility and future-proofing their investments on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

    Hi,

I've a requirement wherein a customer needs to upgrade from Imaging and Process Mgt (11.1.1.5.0) to a higher version.
    Any pointers around this?
    Thanks
