Gardner Builders, a Midwestern general contractor, is focused on delivering a wide range of projects in a way that gives its customers complete confidence. The company’s goal is to help clients reach their potential by ensuring projects meet their business needs while reflecting the personality of each client.
Ensuring efficient delivery of projects is key to that mission, so Gardner has implemented a completely cloud-based suite of technology solutions that enables access across teams and from any location.
Gardner recently found that its legacy scheduling solution did not provide a good user experience, was not compatible with the company’s recent operating system upgrade, and did not foster a positive trade partner relationship.
As a result, Gardner Construction Technology Lead Korey Grant started looking for a new system and eventually selected Oracle Primavera Cloud, a powerful but easy-to-use cloud solution for construction planning and scheduling that supports fast project startup.
New project setup has always been a time-consuming and significant process. The time and effort devoted to upfront planning has an impact on the entire project; when project setup is done properly, the entire project runs more smoothly. The inverse is also true.
With a configurable solution used company-wide, instead of having each project start their schedules from scratch, Gardner gains efficiencies across all their projects by centrally building layouts and templates for each project to copy and implement.
“Oracle Primavera Cloud is so easy to use, we can build layouts and then iterate to a near perfect solution,” says Grant. “We have achieved better and more consistent results because our project managers and superintendents have little to no setup time starting new projects by using the centrally built layouts and templates.”
Gardner wants field professionals to focus on safely and efficiently delivering the best projects to their clients without spending unnecessary time building and updating schedules or dealing with cumbersome technology. “We are utilizing Oracle Primavera Cloud scheduling to the extreme,” says Grant.
Look-aheads can be easily and frequently created, providing more up-to-date information to the field. The scenarios tool lets Gardner quickly assess options to support optimal decisions, and baselines help the company measure project performance.
In addition, Gardner can compare schedule performance across projects and implement corrective actions and best practices by using a standard tool and templates for all projects.

Gardner Superintendent Curtis Martinson has been instrumental to the company’s successful implementation and adoption of the Oracle solution. Martinson has focused his efforts on assessing needs and building layouts and templates to support project teams. He credits much of Gardner’s successful implementation and adoption to the product’s ease of use.
Gardner is focusing on perfecting their use of Oracle Primavera Cloud for CPM scheduling, but they always have their eye on the future. The company’s focus is on field quality, productivity, and providing the very best to their clients.
Gardner looks forward to their next steps with the Oracle solution, including integrating their CPM and Lean schedules, and leveraging Oracle Primavera Cloud information to further improve their resource management.
