Oracle OpenWorld 19 Daily Report -- Wednesday

Product Marketing Manager

We are already at the halfway point of the conference and the week! The days have been flying by, but I hope you've had the opportunity to soak up some great information, meet with fellow industry folks, and perhaps catch a demo in the Exchange! Wednesday is also a special day, because it is CloudFest.19! Get ready to dance the night away at the brand new Chase Center as John Mayer and Flo Rida take the stage! You won’t want to miss this year's fun lineup and a chance to unwind after a busy week of sessions.

In case you missed a few of these sessions today, I've included a quick recap of the sessions we loved:

Reduce Risk and Increase Innovation with Automation

In a stunning presentation by Steve Daheb, Senior Vice President, Oracle Cloud, we had the opportunity to think big about the possibilities for innovation with emerging technologies such as machine learning, chatbots, and automation. Daheb also touched on the opportunity customers have to select the deployments that work best for them, "It's not a one size fits all for our customers, so we need to offer our customers choice." We also had the opportunity to hear from several customers on how Oracle's cloud technologies are allowing them to better run their business, be more competitive in their industry, and in some cases make sizeable differences in the lives of those they serve. Security is critical for every organization looking to innovate, especially when critical data is involved, Daheb went on to say, "organizations have to get it right 100% of the time, attackers only need to get it right once."

Recognizing Customers Who are Making a Difference

Last night was the annual, Oracle Cloud Platform Innovation Awards! We were pleased to honor attendees from a variety of categories for their hard work, dedication, and nonstop pursuit of excellence. These organizations, along with members of their extended team of Oracle personnel and partners, celebrated the evening with a welcome reception, awards ceremony, and evening networking reception. Interested in being nominated for an Innovation award? Check back here next year for more detailed information on submitting a nomination!

What's up next?

A CISO's Path to Success in the Age of Cybersecurity
Wednesday, 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM | Moscone South - Room 210

Many organizations struggle to mature their security and risk management capabilities as they leverage more and more cloud services. This session examines real-world customer use cases, best practices, and technology usage for how CISOs are building and maturing their information security programs to address the proliferation of sensitive data in hybrid environments, regulatory compliance mandates, and the ever-changing threat landscape. Delve into what technologies are a must in the minds of the security executive, the challenges and pitfalls encountered, and the incremental successes achieved.

The Art of Risk Aversion and Threat Mitigation in the Cloud
Wednesday, 04:45 PM - 05:30 PM | Moscone South (Esplanade Ballroom) - Room 151A

Today’s C-suite is not only responsible for establishing security and privacy goals, they are the ones ultimately held accountable for the impacts of policy failures. The next generation of business leaders are leveraging the cloud as an enabler to their business goals and objectives. What are the challenges IT, security, and privacy leaders are facing with this shift? How can line-of-business leaders maximize the relationships with key leaders such as the CISO, CRO, and others? What are the priorities of the C-suite moving into 2020? Leading this session are the authors of the “Cloud Threat Report” and experts on risk aversion and threat mitigation, as they help attendees gain deeper insights into challenges and leading practices.

Mitigating Risk with Oracle Autonomous Database
Wednesday, 04:45 PM - 05:30 PM | Moscone South (Esplanade Ballroom) - Room 156C

There are too many security threats for organizations to keep up. Detecting and responding to today’s sophisticated attacks is the #1 challenge facing organizations today, according to the Oracle and KPMG Cloud Threat Report. As the repository for sensitive data, databases are the target of many of these attacks. Join this session to learn how customers are using the self-securing Oracle Autonomous Database to mitigate insider and external threats with default encryption, self-patching, and powerful privileged user controls. And hear how new data security cloud services help detect and mitigate unauthorized activity and protect non-production databases with masking.

Tomorrow evening's schedule will be packed, but try not to spend your whole day thinking about all fun you will have dancing the night away. Instead, take a moment to plan your day out carefully and be sure to make a stop at our Oracle security sessions!
