Data is the most valuable IT asset, but if not protected can become your biggest liability. EU GDPR is now being enforced (with the first GDPR lawsuits filed the very first day of the new law), and there is a global trend toward privacy legislation that mirrors GDPR. These new data privacy laws combined with weekly revelations of significant data breaches are driving organization to focus more and more on how to protect their sensitive data. The bad guys are after your data, and they are winning far too often. Hackers exploit unpatched systems; leverage weak, default, and stolen passwords; and slurp up unencrypted data wherever they find it.
One of the many lessons in this year's Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report is that databases are high value targets. In fact, Verizon highlights databases as THE top asset involved in the most significant data breaches. It's time to turn the tide and lock down these valuable data repositories.
