WebLogic Server, Coherence, Development Tools 12.1.3 Released

We're proud to announce the release of Cloud Application Foundation [CAF] 12.1.3 as part of the Oracle Fusion Middleware 12.1.3 release. This includes updates to Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle Coherence and Oracle development tooling, all released in tandem for maximum efficiency and ease of adoption.

Oracle WebLogic Server 12c continues to provide maximum choice of deployment options for the industry's leading application infrastructure platform, and introduces new support and integration with the broader Fusion Middleware 12c stack. WebLogic Server continues to offer a rich support of deployment choices through upgraded support for conventional on-premise systems and increased performance with Engineered Systems (such as Oracle Exalogic). Public cloud deployment options are also available, including the Oracle Cloud and third-party cloud providers such as Amazon, Windows Azure and others. These choices provide out-of-the-box compatibility with the world's most popular platforms, and allow for easy migration between these options as desired.
The WebLogic Server 12.1.3 release contains new features that extends its leadership in the application infrastructure marketplace, by making developers more productive, improving application performance and availability, and expanding options for cloud management and operations. Developers will see increasing support for Java EE 7 technologies, such as WebSockets, JAX-RS 2.0, JPA 2.1, and the Java API for JSON Processing, and also value-added capabilities like Server-Sent Events and unique WebSocket emulation capability. High availability and performance improvements include improvements to Database 12c integration support, transaction processing optimizations and multi-data center configuration guidance, and new performance optimizations for Exalogic systems. Manageability enhancements include improvements to dynamic clusters through whole server migration support, expanded support for REST-based management of WLS configurations, and new application and configuration management support in Oracle Fusion Middleware Control. Finally, WebLogic Server 12.1.3 is the foundation of the Oracle Fusion Middleware 12.1.3 release, which adds Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Service Bus, Oracle Business Process Management, and other Fusion Middleware products to the 12c family of products that is supported on and integrated with WebLogic Server 12c.

The Oracle Coherence 12.1.3 update focuses on ease of integration with existing systems, developer enhancements and overall performance and functionality improvements. Specifically for developers, Coherence now provides support for the recently-approved JSR-107 (JCache) specification and Memcached clients to increase customer integration points and provide even more standards-based solutions. Further, Coherence now includes a JVisual VM Plugin, allowing more choices to manage and monitor the lifecycles of Coherence applications.
Focusing on Coherence's performance and functions, the 12.1.3 release delivers more performance when running on Oracle Exalogic, and includes new features such asynchronous 'EntryProcessors' and improvements to index creation. Elastic Data improvements make it easier than ever to create multi-terabyte data grids, and forward compatibility means that newer clients are now capable of connecting to older-versioned Coherence clusters.

Aligning with the CAF (and overall Oracle Fusion Middleware) 12.1.3 release, Oracle development tools - including Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle ADF and Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse - have focused on providing support for the newest CAF product versions, as well as providing richer mobile development capabilities.
Focusing on open standards and enhancements, Oracle tools for 12.1.3 include extended Maven functionality, an enriched REST development experience, JPA and EJB development upgrades and coding features from the recently-released JDK 8. All tools support the Cloud Application Foundation (and broader Fusion Middleware) 12.1.3 releases.
