With the latest release, Oracle Database 12c provides tremendous new capability to enable cloud computing. A new architecture enables greatly simplified database consolidation with no changes to your applications. This new architecture uses a new option, Oracle Multitenant, allowing you to “plug into the cloud” with a multitenant container database that can hold one to many pluggable databases. This greatly increases scalability and server utilization, allowing you to manage many databases as one, all while retaining the complete isolation of separate databases, without changing any application code or access rights.
Each application can then have its own dedicated pluggable database, to ensure complete data isolation and the resource prioritization of separate workloads. Each pluggable database is plugged in to a multitenant container database (CDB), so an administrator only has to deal with administering and managing the one CDB, literally providing the ability to “manage many as one”! This makes it easy to consolidate multiple databases onto private clouds without changing any applications, and still be in complete control of all resources.
This new architecture is designed for cloud, provides efficient consolidation, with rapid provisioning and cloning of databases, along with easier and faster upgrades and patching. With Oracle Multitenant you can quickly and easily plug into the cloud!
