Colombia has all the ingredients to become one of the most representative markets in digital technologies

Bogotá, Colombia – October 31, 2014 Oracle presented in Bogotá alongside international experts, the challenges facing our market and the new concept of “digital disruption”, which analyzes how new technologies transform current business models and its value proposition in the market. Consequently, Oracle Cloud World Bogota 2014 featured important panelists, such as Ken Segall, Apple creative who had lead some of the company’s most successful campaigns; Rod Johnson, Oracle Enterprise Applications Vice president; and Carlos Arguindegui, Oracle Colombia and Ecuador General Manager, explained how new trends are enticing companies to think out of the box, and innovate through information technology in order to transform their businesses.

Throughout the event the participants recognized the country’s enormous existing potential, which offers unprecedented conditions for various size companies to embrace new technologies. In addition,  Colombia’s innovation and connectivity index were pointed out, allowing organizations such as Oracle to develop a business environment. As a result, big and mid-size companies in the country can introduce into their business models solutions like cloud computing.

 Oracle has found  Columbia to be a very attractive market, where companies are open to embracing change which will benefit their procedures, profitability, and help them  become more competitive. Finance and retail companies, as well as government bodies have migrated towards cloud computing, allowing them to optimize their processes significantly. In Colombia, 95% of listed companies are ranked as mid-sized. Currently, the market can offer business suites and services adaptable to their needs. For all companies, cloud computing offers cost reductions, fast delivery, and resiliency according to their particular needs.

Overall, Oracle CloudWorld  was an informative and eventful day with innovative speakers, live demos and great networking opportunities.

Oracle’s Day in the Cloud in Melbourne

Oracle CloudWorld in Melbourne took place on a steamy 32 degree day at the Grand Hyatt. The event kicked off with registration at 8am and the plenary at 8.45am. With 600 attendees, it was even bigger than the event we ran in Sydney almost a year ago.
The event featured six tracks focusing on sales/marketing; finance and operations; customer service; developers; IT innovation and HR. This CloudWorld had large numbers of attendees from all different lines of business as every effort had been made to make sure the agendas for each track were compelling enough to appeal to the specific needs of these busy individuals.
The plenary sessions were packed to the rafters. Tim Ebbeck, Managing Director for ANZ kicked off the proceedings and introduced Jeff Henley, Oracle’s Chairman who had the audience captivated with his presentation on Moving at the Speed of Opportunity. Jeff was followed by Reggie Bradford, SVP, Product Development, Oracle, Former Founder & CEO of Vitrue who presented the power of the Oracle cloud.


The plenary sessions ended with a panel titled ‘Transform Your Business’. The participants came from diverse backgrounds but provided highly engaging banter to challenge the perceptions of the audience and to introduce them to new ways of thinking. The panel lineup included a stellar cast:

Brandon Byrne, Vice President of Finance and Administration, Curse
Dr David Rock, Author and Director, NeuroLeadership Institute

•    Dr David Rock, Author and Director, NeuroLeadership Institute on the neuroscience of developing leaders.
•    Brandon Byrne, Vice President of Finance and Administration, Curse talking about why Curse chose Oracle Cloud over the competition.
•    Iain Clarke, Director – Chief Technology Officer - Cloud Services, CapGemini and NRMA on how to drive end to end innovation around cloud adoption.
•    Matthew Holst,Director of Demand Centre & CRM APAC, Dell discussing Dell’s marketing journey using Eloqua.
•    Nigel Prior, National Customer Experience Practice Manager, NEC Australia talking about their customer experience strategy.
•    Robert Hillard, Managing Partner Technology Agenda, Deloitte on what the tech trends will be for 2014.


The day ended with Reggie Bradford summing up on customer expectations in the age of the modern customer experience and finally with Lauren Anderson, Chief Knowledge Officer at Collaborative Lab, really challenging the audience and wowing them with stories of new cloud innovation in her presentation on  a new world of consumer behaviours.

Journey to the Cloud…Planet

The year is 2092. Scientists have been scanning deep space for decades looking for signals of alien life. Earlier this year they hit pay dirt: a signal both strong and consistent, confirmed as hailing from deep space. The signal jolted the global scientific community and its supporters in government and industry. Big things began to happen. First, an unprecedented coordination of deep space sensors triangulated and pinpointed the signal’s source. It was coming from a planet catalogued 35 years ago by Brazilian researchers and labeled as “earth-like.” Further study confirmed that it is a rocky planet with methane, mild volcanism, and an abundance of water circulating in its atmosphere. The Brazilians called it, appropriately, Terranuvem: the cloud planet. Next, scientists responded to the pulse from Terranuvem with signal of our own. All involved expected it to take 12 years to arrive at the distant world.

Two weeks later their signal changed. Soon after, a hurriedly assembled meeting of the World Council of Nations issued a statement indicating that technology existed to traverse the light-years to Terranuvem. Rumors abound that the tech is from an extraterrestrial source. Now, we’ve learned that a ship is being outfitted to make the journey. It’s humanity’s first voyage to another star system. The top 5 things you should be asking your potential cloud provider about security

Cloud is changing the way we all do business- and we all know it is here to stay.  But, what about the "issues" that  linger around cloud? Security is the first one that comes to mind. Security is considered the number one inhibitor for organizations who are considering moving their business critical applications to a cloud based environment.


So, cloud is here to stay and security is a concern.. How do we get beyond the fear?

The first step is:
 When evaluating a cloud solution, one of the first things to consider is the security “readiness” and qualifications of the potential cloud provider.


Some questions to ask are:
-What are your organization’s needs when it comes to security?  Maybe you are in a highly regulated industry or in a country where you need to ensure your company adheres to specific regulations. 


-What are your specific business and regulatory requirements for the data that you are looking to move to the cloud?

Cloud Fact for Business Managers #3: Where Your Data Is, and Who Has Access to It Might Surprise You

While data security and operational risk conversations usually happen around the desk of a CCO/CSO (chief compliance and/or security officer), or perhaps the CFO, since business managers are now selecting cloud providers, they need to be able to at least ask some high-level questions on the topic of risk and compliance.  While the report found that 76% of adopters were motivated to adopt cloud apps because of quick access to software, most of these managers found that after they made a purchase decision their access to exciting new capabilities in the cloud could be hindered due to performance and scalability constraints put forth  by their cloud provider.  If you are going to let your business consume their mission critical business applications as a service, then it’s important to understand who is providing those cloud services and what kind of performance you are going to get.  Different types of departments, companies and industries will all have unique requirements so it’s key to take this also into consideration.  


Nothing puts a CEO in a bad mood like a public data breach or finding out the company lost money when customers couldn’t buy a product or service because your cloud service provider had a problem.  With 42% of business managers having seen a data security breach in their department associated directly with the use of cloud applications, this is happening more than you think.  

We’ve talked about the importance of being able to avoid information silos through a unified cloud approach and platform.  This is also important when keeping your data safe and secure, and a key conversation to have with your cloud provider.  Your customers want to know that their information is protected when they do business with you, just like you want your own company information protected.   This is really hard to do when each line of business is running different cloud application services managed by different cloud providers, all with different processes and controls.   It only adds to the complexity, and the more complex, the more risky and the chance that something will go wrong.

What about compliance? Depending on the cloud provider, it can be difficult at best to understand who has access to your data, and were your data is actually stored.  Add to this multiple cloud providers spanning multiple departments and it becomes very problematic when trying to comply with certain industry and country data security regulations.  With 73% of business managers complaining that having cloud data handled externally by one or more cloud vendors makes it hard for their department to be compliant, this is a big time suck for executives and it puts the organization at risk.

New Study Finds Business Managers Have Big Expectations (and Big Challenges) in the Cloud

In the immortal words of Voltaire (and more recently - Spiderman) - "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility." No more is this true than with a line of business executives' new found power over the adoption of innovation and new technology with much thanks to cloud computing.

Among the great benefits of cloud from the eyes of a business executive is the ability to better influence and often decide what technology an organization selects. With no software and hardware to buy and manage, the business manager can easily subscribe to a new cloud application service and be up and running in no time. This is in stark contrast to the typical wait time of months or even years for a large software implementation. Accelerating the speed of adoption empowers the manager to select a new technology that will help their particular line of business with very little input from the IT organization. And because upfront costs are lower and categorized as an operational expense, the approval process is typically much easier. Get it fast, without the hassle - what could go wrong, right?

With the business manager’s new found power from the cloud comes the added responsibility to not only ensure an application service addresses the immediate business challenges or opportunity, but that it also contains certain characteristics in terms of how the application service is built and delivered.
