Accelerating Your Journey to Self-Service IT with Technology Solutions from Oracle and Partners

At the Oracle Open World 2013, I was really pleased to see many Oracle customers sharing their story of accelerating their journey to Self-Service IT or private cloud leveraging the technology solutions from Oracle and partners.

The Oracle Enterprise Manager General session at Oracle Open World 2013 highlighted the efforts of everyday heroes who are driving their IT organizations’ journeys to a more efficient and agile IT. These heroes - 5 Oracle ACEs and 2 other enterprise Manager customers , shared their experiences in deploying and managing large-footprint Oracle stack environments encompassing Oracle Applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Database, and Oracle engineered systems.

The general session also covered Oracle Enterprise Manager’s own journey as a product in this context and also gave a sneak preview of what’s to come.

Many other customers, for example, Bank of America, Norwey's NAV, Mercy Hospital shared their experience during their journey to private cloud and offering Database as a Service or Middleware as a Service via a self-service portal.

Many partners showcased their private cloud solutions and announced new products at Oracle Open World. Dell announced integration of their Open Manage solution with Oracle Enterprise Manager during Michael Dell's keynote.

EMC announced their new Oracle Enterprise Manager plug-in for their storage during Jeremy Burton's keynote .

Another key highlight for me was the sessions from Oracle user group members on Sunday, September 22nd. Attendance, engagement and interaction during these sessions were really amazing.

If you missed these sessions, want to review what you learned, or spread the knowledge to others, now you can download most of the sessions presented at Oracle OpenWorld. There are two ways to access the sessions for download (or online review):

  1. Directly through Content Catalog
  2. Indirectly through Schedule Builder to Content Catalog (registered attendees only)

In addition , you can learn more about accelerating your journey to self-service IT by going Zero to Cloud resource page.

Scientists at the National Ignition Facility (NIF)— the world’s largest laser, at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)— need research environment that requires re-creating the physical environment and conditions that exist inside the sun. They have built private cloud infrastructure using Oracle VM and Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c to provision such an environment for research.

Tim Frazier of LLNL joined the "Managing Your Private Cloud With Oracle Enterprise Manager' session at Oracle Open World 2012 and discussed how the latest features in Oracle VM and Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c enables them to accelerate application provisioning in their private cloud. He also talked about how to increase service delivery agility, improve standardized roll outs, and do proactive management to gain total control of the private cloud environment.

He also presented at the "Scene and Be Heard Theater" at Oracle OpenWorld 2012 and shared a lot of good information about his project and what they are doing in their private cloud environment. Learn more by looking at Tim's presentation .
