Last year at Oracle OpenWorld, I had the opportunity to connect face to face with Amarjit Dhillon, chief information officer at Turning Point, UK. Most of you may have already heard about the phenomenal work that Turning Point does in the United Kingdom. It is a national health and social care provider that offers services for those that need these services most, across mental health, learning disability, substance misuse, and employment.
What struck me about my conversation with Amarjit was the passion he brought to his work! In his prior roles, Amarjit has worked with many multi-national, even Fortune 100 companies where he had spearheaded technology initiatives to improve those companies’ bottom line or increase revenue potential. With Turning Point, he is determined to use technology to better lives, and even save lives!
As he puts it “In mental health crisis situations, every second matters.” And so, Amarjit built and implemented a Cloud strategy. His goal is to make Turning Point services available wherever, whenever, even when the brick and mortar locations are closed. He wants to ensure that a person in crisis needing help while at a grocery store can discreetly connect with Turning point service providers using a mobile device, even chatbot. He wants to make sure that service providers have the latest materials, the latest information available to them digitally and that those materials are always, automatically up to date and current. And, that from the time a service user connects with Turning Point to the time a service user actually sees a service provider for help is greatly reduced!
But as a mom of two, what really hit home for me is that Amarjit is fighting a battle against time. Street drugs are constantly evolving and there’s new ones hitting the street ever so often. So, Amarjit wants to leverage technology to be able to spin up websites and microsites quickly without much lag time so that up to date information is available to all service providers and service users to keep up the fight with substance abuse.
Amarjit looked at Cloud services not just as a way to deliver better, speedier, wider access to their services but also as a means to reduce cost because, of course, healthcare funding doesn’t increase proportional to increase in healthcare costs!
The fact that Oracle Cloud Platform technologies like Oracle Content and Experience Cloud, Oracle Mobile Cloud Service, and SaaS solution, Oracle Service Cloud are enabling Amarjit reach these goals is a humbling realization and an inspiring one. I am so glad that my job allows me to understand and share how technologies are being (or can be) used to drive digital transformation at times and enabling better lives in some cases.
