Calling all developers! We recently launched Oracle Autonomous Database for Developers, which lets you use Autonomous Database at no extra cost if you’re subscribed to Dedicated Exadata Cloud Infrastructure or Exadata Cloud@Customer Infrastructure. As a developer, you probably don’t care about the cost, so let’s talk about why you should be excited about this release.

Innovation made simpler

Autonomous Database helps you simplify your work and streamline your development, bringing you to DevOps 2.0, where we focus on the operations monotony and you focus on the development innovation. And Autonomous Database does it all! It’s a converged data platform. That means it's a multimodel, multiworkload, multitenant data store that supports any type of data you can generate.

Let’s say you want to create an app that tells users the best places to hike with their dog. You're going to need geospatial data for the trail coordinates and other scenic locations they need to see. Then you're going to need graph data for the social media aspect of this app so users can share the top spots and building that community. And you can't forget the relational data that's going to be coming from all the hiking trails around the world. With that in mind, are you going really going to deploy all those different data stores to handle each respective data? If you did, you’d have to think about the data integration, modeling, querying, analysis, performance, scalability… Why go through that headache? With Autonomous Database, you can work with spatial, graph, relational, and much more in a single database.

In addition to being able work with all types of data, Autonomous Database has a built-in simplistic low-code development platform, Oracle APEX. See how easy it really is with this LiveLab on how to build a powerful, interactive analytics application. But if low-code development isn’t your thing, you can build using popular programming languages and environments including Python, Node.js, Go, PHP and Ruby, as well as providing access for Oracle Call Interface, Oracle C++ Call Interface (OCCI), JDBC OCI, ODBC and Pro*C applications. Learn how in Language bindings for Autonomous Database: An overview for Developers.

Streamlined deployment

When your application code is done, you’re ready for deployment. With Autonomous Database, you can utilize the plethora of continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) tools, such as Terraform and Jenkins. Autonomous Database support plugins and Kubernetes to automate this process, which streamlines the deployment process for consistency across all environments, improved efficiency, reduced downtime, and much more.

When the application is live, you can ensure that your database is running smoothly with observability tools and services for Autonomous Database within the Oracle Cloud Console, Prometheus, and Grafana. These tools can ensure that you’re on top of everything from performance optimization to troubleshooting to meet the ever-evolving needs of your application and users

Generative AI and Autonomous Database

If you’re still not impressed with Autonomous Database, we saved the best for last. With the rise of generative AI, developers are eager to see how they can incorporate it into their work. The possibilities for creativity and innovation are endless with generative AI, but to reach its true potential, you should use it with Autonomous Database. By combining generative AI with an autonomous database, you can harness the power of AI-driven data synthesis, model training, real-time inference, personalization, security, automation, scalability, and flexibility to create impressive and innovative solutions. Unlock innovation today

Hopefully this post inspires you to explore all the cool ways that you can unlock innovation with Autonomous Database. Even though this release is only for those already subscribed to Exadata Cloud Infrastructure or Exadata Cloud@Customer Infrastructure, you can still harness the power of Autonomous Database with our Always Free Tier. We even provide a free container image for developers making it even easier to deploy. Share your Autonomous Database creations using #InnovateWithADB with us; we can’t wait to see what you create!
