In the United States, CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) celebrates October as the Cybersecurity Awareness Month to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. Earlier in October, we released a free training course – Cybersecurity and Oracle Cloud – to support fundamental knowledge and skills on cybersecurity, making it easier to learn basic concepts and to understand common risk factors.

To finish the month, we’ve released a new advanced-level OCI Security course and related OCI Security Associate certification covering topics on securing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure environments.

Built-in Security with OCI

When building OCI, we not only improved the cloud architecture but also launched several key security innovations such as off-box virtualization and hardware root of trust. To make things simpler, we enabled security by default – for example, in OCI, all data at rest and in-transit is encrypted by default.

Security misconfigurations are one of the top security challenges with public cloud, so there are OCI services that constantly scan for misconfigurations, policy breaches, and suspicious activity in your environments and automatically remediate these on your behalf.

Most security services are built-in at no extra charge too. The graphic below shows how OCI implements defense-in-depth, or security across multiple layers of the stack, through various security services.

You’ll get an overview of these key innovations in cloud security as well as OCI-specific security services as you learn how to effectively secure OCI environments in this advanced-level course.

OCI Security Associate Certification Details

The new OCI Security Associate certification is intended for professionals who are responsible for security in their OCI environments, and passing the certification exam validates a candidate’s knowledge on securing OCI environments.

The exam also validates whether a candidate has the following:

  • Working knowledge of OCI security services to provide a secure cloud environment
  • Understanding of OCI Identity and Access Management service and its features
  • Understanding of data-encryption methods and OCI mechanisms to secure data
  • Understanding of network security in OCI
  • Understanding of how to secure applications in OCI
  • Understanding of security operations, including monitoring, logging, and alerting

The target candidate should have two-plus years of experience in designing and implementing security solutions and six months or more of hands-on experience in securing workloads on OCI. Practical knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure security architecture, use cases, and best practices is also recommended.

Expand your security knowledge by starting the free OCI Security course today.
