Announcing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Network Visualizer

Your Oracle virtual network is composed of virtual cloud networks (VCNs), subnets, gateways, and other resources. These entities are related and connected through often complex routing and have complex relationships with other Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services. The ability to have a concise picture of these entities, including their relationships, is essential for understanding and troubleshooting the design and operation of a virtual network.

With the general availability of OCI Network Visualizer, we provide you a service that allows you to visualize the network topology associated with your tenancy. This feature is available in all OC1 commercial regions starting today at no extra cost.

Network Visualizer takes your current topology and abstracts it into a visual model. Through interaction with this model, you can obtain detailed resource information for each component, allowing you to view and manage the configuration of selected components with a single click from the resource information screen. This capability gives you better network visibility and aid in troubleshooting.

You can get started with OCI Network Visualizer immediately in all regions. For more information, see the documentation.


You can access by selecting Networking and Network Visualizer from the networking menu.

Cloud Network Visualization

You can now get a visual representation of your network topology in OCI, with the ability to drill down into resources on the Network Visualizer map for more detail. This sample diagram gives a high-level overview of a customer who has deployed a network architecture using a hub-and-spoke topology. You can see the various components that comprise the topology and how connectivity from the on-premises network is architected.

You can also highlight individual VCNs. In Resource Information, choose to Go to VCN Map for detailed information about the subnets and other components associated with that VCN. You can also see connectivity, routing, and topology through interacting with the different network elements, as shown in Resource Information.

With the ability to easily visualize their topology, customers can use OCI Network Visualizer to quickly identify issues with their topology. In this example, the customer deployed a hub-spoke topology and reported that access to the Spoke 1 VCN isn’t working.

With Network Visualizer, you can quickly identify the problem as incorrect provisioning of the local peering gateway (LPG), which wasn’t connected between the hub and spoke VCN.
