Announcing Improved Navigation for the OCI Console

New Oracle Cloud Navigation Menu

We’re excited to announce a major upgrade to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Console navigation menu.

As OCI continues to grow, adding new services and expanding our current services, our customers need a more efficient way to navigate the Console. In this change, we’re better organizing the rapidly growing set of OCI services into logical top-level categories and reducing the scrolling and manual searching that customers have to do today.

Key features

  • Customize the menu by pinning your favorite services for quick access or simply pick from your recent visits.

  • Easily find services without scrolling, thanks to improved categorization of services into logical groups and inline search of navigation menu items.

  • The extra real estate in the menu now allows more direct links to resource pages in our core services, reducing the number of clicks to get you where you need to go.

Getting started

We designed this new menu with personalization in mind. The more you use it, the more it can become your own personal launchpad into all the services you use in the OCI Console.

One of the key features for personalization is pinning. You can pin any link in the navigation menu for quick access from the Home tab. Hover over any item, and you see an unfilled pin pop up on the left, as shown with Load Balancers in the following example. Click the pin to add it to your list on the home page, and you can easily access it in future visits.

You can also pin items directly from our new, in-navigation search. While you can continue to use the search bar in the top of the Console to search for resources, services, and documentation, we added a special search bar in the new navigation menu that only searches for services and resources inside the menu. It’s a great tool to use if you know the service that you’re looking for but aren’t sure where it lives. For example, start searching for Exadata. You can find all the relevant services in one place.

Finally, we also introduced the concept of Related Services and Help in the menu in the right column of each category. The links in these sections change based on the category you’re currently looking at to provide in-context help. Related Services are menu items that live in different categories than the one you’re in but are still relevant to your current category. For example, Database Management lives in Observability & Management, but you can also find it as a related service in the Oracle Database category. The Help links quickly take you to relevant documentation for your category.
