Collada MoonBuggy in JavaFX

Collada MoonBuggy with skin animation in JavaFX.

In the scripting API for this scene graph, animated Collada models are Nodes which are also polymorphic with Timelines. You can "play" them. Relevant code:

var model = Model {
    url: "lunar_lander_tris.dae"
    repeatCount: Timeline.INDEFINITE
}

model.play();

var zoom = 0.0;

var scene = Scene {
   background: BLACK;
   camera: PerspectiveCamera {
       heightAngle: 15
       nearDistance: 1
       farDistance: 1000
       position: bind Transform.translate(0, 0, 30+zoom);
   }
   lights: [...]
   content: model

}

...

Comments:

When, do you suppose, will we get the 3D scenegraph in JavaFX?

It looks awesome :)

Can you show the code of the "Model" JavaFX class ?
and/or maybe a Java webstart for this.

Cool stuff! I hope your posting this means that the JavaFX integrated 2-D/3-D scenegraph is nearly ready! It was a shame it didn't make it into the 1.0 release.

I Love to see 3D Animation work.

Posted by Terral Sukut on January 14, 2009 at 07:50 PM PST #

Will the new media graphics stack draw 3D and 2D animated graphics smoother then the present JavaFX 1.0 release?

Posted by Tony Springer on January 14, 2009 at 09:19 PM PST #

Any plans to add a physics engine to 3D (and 2D)?

Posted by Erik Martino on January 14, 2009 at 10:46 PM PST #

@Tony

Smooth animation requires a frame rate >= monitor refresh rate. That is a requirement that we must meet.

@Erik Martino

Yep, dynamic animation is also a requirement.

In my opinion, the same approach can be used for enterprise software tools integrated with Web Services as in Sun Java CAPS. Note that as above nobody is going to say "Hey, here you go, why don't you test your enterprise tools on my enterprise". Instead in each case we need to simulate the enterprise software problem that our tool is supposed to solve. http://www.aygulum.net

Actually, we do use lazy binding in the production scenegraph. We also do not recompute bounds or transforms on every change. There is certainly more to tighten up

Really looking forward to the next few days when people start properly aggregating this information. Will be interesting to see if what Google reports seem to match the studies we have done on the basis of your experiments for

Wow. I think this gets back to personal responsibility. The teacher should not have said what was said. The comment could have been made in a more authoritative tone. e.g. You should follow the dress code. The student should not have broken the rules and the mom should accept responsibility for raising her daughter improperly
