Well that put me in my place....

I just read about a Sun employee who cycles 325 miles a week commuting to works which puts my 205 into perspective, that is if I manage to do 5 days a week. I'm now clinging to that the weather here is worse, which is kind of sad.

The mystery of the extra 0.1 miles on the way home from work is solved! I've been cycling through Weybridge for such a long that I quite forgot that going to work I take a short cut down Baker street. This nearly always puts that song in my head for a few miles. On the way home that same street involves two right turns so it is quicker to go along the High Street and up Monument Hill. This also has the advantage that I get home with out that song in my head.

Comments:

I'd like to do a bit of biking to work myself, too. I just bought a new bicycle for my daughter, and she's started biking to school. I get worried about the dangers she faces every morning but I think if more people, and children, biked to places, we might actually see a change. My big problem in the Valley is the utter lack of good public transportation that forces people, every day, to drive routine routes to work when they could at least ride a modern train. Why can cities like Berlin and Helsinki afford this sort of transportation and we cannot? The question is rarely discussed.
