Riding to Winchester

I prepared well by having a noodle fest last night and then early to bed. Then at 2am I was awoken by a puking child. Then again at 3am and then again later (exactly when was a blur). So instead of a good nights sleep I had not enough sleep.
Six of us left going out via Effingham and over White Down and then down via the back roads to Wisborough Green. Where we found a nice Cafe, already down to five. Then it was off along the main road to Winchester along the way another turned off. Since two of us had to be back early (me to look after the sickly child) and the other two were in need of food we split at Winchester with two going into the centre of Winchester in search of food and two of us for a blast up the A31. Whilst the A31 is a horrible road for traffic is is very fast. Our average speed at the Cafe was 15.8mph, by the time I got home it was up to 17.9mph for the whole 128miles. The unexpected speed work on the way home was hard work but we were doing 25mph on the flat and given that we did not get to do any big hills on the way this was a good test.
The final good sign was there is one of those speed signs that flash a vehicles going over 30mph in Westfield. Despite having done over 100 miles at this stage we managed to sprint to get it to flash, result.
Great ride, so good I forgot to mention the rain.
