Remote control systems

Still gives me a kick.
Ages ago we built three labs around the world and equipped most of the power ports with remote power. So if all else failed you could turn the system off and back on again.
Well here I am sat at home, thanks to my back, which is much improved thank you, and I have to test the fix I'm working on on an x86 system. So I book a system in the lab connect to the console and it is dead. Never worry run the “power cycle”command for that system. There is a short delay, well quite long actually as the systems self test took what seemed like ages. Then I see the system booting and I can set it to boot of the network and install. 32 minutes 48 seconds later it is running Solaris 10 and waiting for my fix. I'm still 14 ½miles away from the system.
Not rocket science I know but still very effective.
