Dalek

I'm really not sure about the Dalek's having a softer side. Yes a gooey slimy inside but not a softer side that is swayed by questions of their purpose in the space time continuum. They exist to have a sink plunger for one arm and a whisk for the other, only one eye on a stalk and to exterminate things, preferably while saying the word exterminate a lot.

However I found the Dalek episode thoroughly enjoyable and it was clearly very frightening for the kids. I'm just glad that since The Dr is a Time Lord we may meet up with the Daleks in future episodes which would be in their past unless any more have fallen through holes in time.

We will gloss over the details of how dumb it would be to put the keypad that controls the door on the inside of the cell, and having made that mistake allowing a Dalek to have an infinite number of tries in a second with the sink plunger to guess the code. What they needed was a Java card.

The Dalek itself was more impressive than past versions, including being able to hover to get around the age old “I'll just go upstairs” to escape you trick.

SPOLIERS

I liked the episode a lot, actually.

Keep in mind that it was not a normal Dalek, it was "contaiminated" with Rose's DNA. That was why it killed itself, it couldn't live wth the emotiosn it was now feeling.

I thought the episode was a fitting farewell to the Daleks in that it actually made us sympathetic to one, albeit the alst of its kind.

I would not hold my breath that you will see any more though. Remember this was a Time War. By the end of the old series the Daleks were already having experimental success with vasic time travel. I suspect they got it to the same levelas the Galifreyans, at which point all hell broke loose across all of time-space. The only way to win such a war is not to just destroy your enemy now, but either (a) destroy them across all time (make it so they nevr existed) OR (b) make it impossible for them to time travel. Its my stroing suspicion that the former is what happened to both races.

Oh and BTw, they also had the hover up the siars trick down bey the final Sylverster McCoy episode they appeared in. (I THINK it was "Rememerbance of the Daleks" but I coudl be confusing titles.)

Due to my hols I have only just seen this show - for breakfast in fact - beats breakfast TV ! Yes not sure about the soft side of the Dalek and I am so pleased they just made it a one episode show. I am sure they will bring them back despite the time war thing. For me Davros was the really nasty piece of work, he invented them. Bring on Davros !
