BBC in on the cycling farcilities

The BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4794198.stm are now highlighting the poor state of cycling faclilities that are provided. Supporting the point well made by cyclists that they should certainly not be made complusorary. Even advising people to use them is unwise. Certainly the current statement in the code that "They can make your journey safer" is about as truthful as the Government's claim that an ID card that you have to have to get a passport is voluntary.
They can make it safer but in practice thay don't.
I don't think in the UK it is possible to build good off road cycling facilties since to do so would cost to much and take up to much space.
The best place for cyclists is on the roads. That is best as in, safest and most convinient.
