Alex Serpo of ZDNet Australia examined OpenOffice.org 2.4.0, giving the product an overall score of 8 out of 10 and bestowing the coveted Editors' Choice award.
OpenOffice.org

Alex reviewed each application in the OpenOffice.org suite, including Writer, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math, and Base, evaluating them both on an individual basis and in comparison to Microsoft Office.

"It is fantastic if you need basic office applications -- such as a word processor or spreadsheet -- at no cost," noted Alex, and gave positive reviews for Writer, Impress and Base, and said that Calc, Draw and Math had some limitations in features that users may want. However, he commented, "While OpenOffice.org has been consistently compared to Microsoft's Office, for a free software suite, it offers remarkable functionality."

Final verdict: "... OpenOffice.org remains the most fully featured free office suite we have come across, and for this reason it well deserves our Editors' Choice."
