Upgrade Your OCA Certification to a Current Version of OCP With a Streamlined Path

Brandye Barrington
Sr. Program Manager

Upgrade your Oracle Database Administrator Certified Associate (OCA) to a current version of Oracle Database Certified Professional (OCP) with a single exam and a training course. Previously, upgrading an OCA certification to OCP across versions required multiple exams. Upgrade directly to one of the latest versions of Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional now with a single exam and a relevant training course.

Oracle Database 12c has changed the game with multitenant architecture and cloud computing. Don't get left behind. Take advantage of this opportunity now. You have developed and proven your foundational database skills through obtaining your OCA certification. Update your skills and get the current Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional certification now. There are two upgrade paths available. Candidates can upgrade to Oracle Database 11g or 12c Administrator Certified Professional. Each path is outlined below with the requirements.

Start your upgrade using one of these paths:

Upgrade to 11g DBA OCP

Upgrade from Oracle9i Database or Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Associate (9i or 10g DBA OCA) to Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Professional (11g DBA OCP) :
  1. Complete one of the Step 2 courses listed under "View Upgrade Path - Oracle Database 11g Administrator OCP - upgrade from Oracle9i or Oracle Database 10g DBA OCA."
  2. Pass Exam "Upgrade Oracle9i/10g OCA to Oracle Database 11g OCP" (1Z0-034).

Upgrade to 12c DBA OCP

Upgrade from Oracle9i Database, Oracle Database 10g or 11g Administrator Certified Associate (9i, 10g or 11g DBA OCA) to Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Professional (12c DBA OCP).

  1. Complete one of the Step 2 courses listed under "View Upgrade Path - Oracle Database 12c Administrator OCP - upgrade from Oracle9i, Oracle Database 10g or 11g DBA OCA."
  2. Pass Exam "Upgrade Oracle9i/10g/11g OCA to Oracle Database 12c OCP" (1Z0-067).

Beta versions of both these exams are currently available. Register now on the Pearson VUE website and get started on your upgrade path today.

please many people in Nigeria never used oracle 10g database administrator, sql expert and associate certificates to get jobs. This is really unfair to we here in Lagos. Please try to address this issues and help us utilize oracle and make it pronounced for us to be proud to represent you here in Nigeria. Good thought though

  • Odili Sunday, September 7, 2014

My certificate is missing, can I get another one by request and how do I request for it?

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, September 16, 2014

    Odili,

You can go to certview.oracle.com and download your eCertificate. If you need an additional printed copy of your certificate from Oracle, you will need to contact Oracle Certification Support http://bit.ly/YpaA7i for assistance.

please i av OCA 10g since 2007 ,will my cert still be usefull even if d credentials re retired?

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, September 30, 2014

The 10g certifications are quite old, and OCA is a more entry-level certification. It is really best if you upgrade to a more current version of certification. You have a couple of options.

    1. If you have completed 10g training, I recommend that you take the 10g DBA OCP exam, submit the course details for your 10g training and the upgrade to 12c by passing exam 060.

    2. If you have not yet taken training, or if your training is in 11g, you can pass the exam 034 and submit the details of your 11g training to upgrade from 10g OCA to 11g OCP.

    3. If you have not yet taken training, or if your training is in 12c, you can pass exam 067 and submit the details of you 12c training to upgrade from 10g OCA to 11g OCP.

    Good luck!

I am working in Plsql development and support projects but i never done any certification. Now i am decided to do some certification please suggest some thing.(version worked (8,9i,10G,11

    ).....

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, October 30, 2014

    Sriram,

If you are going for Database Administrator certification, I would recommend going for 11g or 12c. 9i and earlier certs have retired and 10g retires in March 2015.

If you are going for Database Admin, I'd start with Oracle Database 11g or 12c Administrator Certified Associate.

If you are going to Pl/SQL certification, I'd start with Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate.

You can get more information on these and all Oracle Certifications on our website at certification.oracle.com.

I have OCA Certification in 9i Database. If I complete my OCP in 9i now, will it expire by 1st of Nov, 2015? Any additional course requirent is there for 9i OCP?

    Regards,

    Sheriff

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, November 7, 2014

Prasad, the paths mentioned in this blog post are valid for you.

Karim, you can pass the exam before completing the course, but your certification will only be granted once you've completed the course as well.

Sheriff, It is not possible to complete 9i DBA OCP now. The exams have retired. If you have 9i DBA OCA, you will need to follow one of the paths outlined above to upgrade your certification.

    Hi Brandye Barrington

I have done 10g OCP and want to upgrade to 11g OCP.

Do I have to give exam 1Z1-034 or 11g New Features for Administrators Exam 1Z0-050 will be good enough to get 11g OCP.

    Waiting for your reply.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, December 4, 2014

You can upgrade by passing either of those exams. If you choose 034, it will cost less because it is currently in beta. But it will cover much more information. The 050 exam will cost a little more, but will not cover as much material. You can compare the exam topics.

@Barrington meant that a lot of DBA'S are still looking for jobs in lagos. Either they are doing alternative less paying jobs or just writing programmes for people. Any suggestions. Are there local user groups in Lagos Nigeria? please refer so that we can update to 12c.

    hi,

i just complet my 10g training for module 1 and start the module 2

wheather i give certification(OCA) in 10g or not .Because the 10g expires in march 2015,and till date i cant give any exam ,so please tell me wheather igive exam 10g or not i am in confusion wheather i give or not ,,,or i give direct 11g oca....

sir please tell me i give exam or not???????????

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, January 26, 2015

@Anene, I know in some regions the job markets are tough. I did a quick search for Oracle User Groups in Nigeria and came up with some sites that might be worth your research:

    https://www.facebook.com/NigeriaOracleUsersGroup

    https://www.linkedin.com/pub/info-dept-nigeria-oracle-user-group/1b/b10/a52

    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/customers/customersearch/etisalat-nigeria-1-exadata-ss-2009114.html

    http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/User_groups

I hope that some of this information will be helpful.

@Pankaj, If you want to earn the 10g OCA certification, you'll need to pass both exams by March 1, 2015. If you've already passed 007, 051, 047 or 061, you can go ahead and take 052 for the 11g OCA.

I am oracle 8i OCP want to upgrade my certification in 11g. please advice.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, February 13, 2015

In order to upgrade from 8i to 11g, you will need to

    1. Upgrade to 9i or 10g with exam 030 or 045. NOTE: these exam will both retire March 1, 2015.

    2. Upgrade from 9i or 10g to 11g by passing exam 055 or 050

Alternatively, you could upgrade to 12c DBA OCP from 8i by passing only 1Z0-060.

    should i go for

    1Z0-060

    or

    1Z0-067

  • Karan Sunday, February 22, 2015

    Hi,

I have gone through the training for the version 10g. Had started the training in June 2014. Now I have given the examination for OCA 11g and cleared the examination successfully in Feb 2015. Had opted for 11g because I had read somewhere that Oracle 10g will retire soon in 2015. Hence, 11g seemed to be a safe bet. Now I want to give OCP for 11g. Is it possible to give an exam in 11g if I submit the course completion certificate of 10g? Is it possible to give an exam for OCP 10g when I am an OCA 11g and later upgrade to OCP 11g?. Please advise

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, February 24, 2015

    Karan,

Since your training is in 10g, you will need to complete the 10g OCP path. The 11g OCA will fulfill the OCA pre-req for the 10g OCP certification.

    Time is running out!

    1. Pass the 10g OCP exam 1Z0-043 by March 1, 2015.

    2. Submit the 10g course details throught he 'Course Submission Form' at www.pearsonvue.com/oracle by September 1, 2015.

Then you can upgrade to 11g DBA OCP by passing exam 1Z0-050.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

I am 9i OCA, and looking at this news i feel depressed already given that how expensive these courses are, i had an option to get discount earlier when i was working in Oracle India, but now it doesn't seem like an option. So most likely i am gonna drop out of this re-certification thoughts and lose my old certification too. Not something i planned to handle today.

    Kindly advise.

I have to update my credential by passing exam IZ0-067, I want to ask is it necessary that I have to register for the new exam in www.pearsonvue.com/oracle , why will I not go to my local oracle university to register?

  • guest Friday, February 27, 2015

    Hello there!

I've completed last year OCP 10g. Is there any exam for 12c OCP that I can take directly, instead of taking 11g? Second question, Also is there any mandatory oracle training need if there one for 12c without taking the 11g.

  • guest Saturday, February 28, 2015

I had under gone training program for Oracle 10g workshop 2.

I have cleared the exam of 10g OCA (Workshop 1) in Sep 2008.

Now what is best possible way to upgrade to 11g OCP or 12C OCP.

Do i have to once again undergo training path or just directly appear for the exam of 11g or 12c to complete my OCP track.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 2, 2015

Essse, if you are a 10g DBA OCA, you can upgrade to 12c DBA OCP by taking a relevant 12c course (the New Features course would be a good one) and passing exam 1Z0-067.

@guest 1 on Feb 27, you could certainly register through Oracle University if testing is available at OU sites in your country. OU does not offer testing in all countries.

@guest 2 on Feb 27, If you hold the 10g DBA OCP certification, no additional training is required. You can upgrade to 12c DBA OCP by passing exam 1Z0-060.

@guest on Feb 28, in order to upgrade from 10g DBA OCA to 11g or 12c DBA OCP, you will need to complete 11g or 12c training. The 10g training will not fulfill the training requirement. Your options are:

    - complete 11g or 12c training

    - pass exam 1Z0-034

    - earn 11g DBA OCP

    or

    - complete 12c training

    - pass exam 1Z0-0067

    - earn 12c DBA OCP

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 2, 2015

    AyoOluwa,

If you are a 10g DBA OCP, you will need to upgrade to 11g or 12c by March 1, 2016.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 2, 2015

    @guest on Feb 25,

I'm sorry to hear how this news affected you. Oracle training is expensive, but through programs like the WDP (workforce.oracle.com) perhaps you can get the training you need to upgrade to a current version of certification.

In order to move from OCA to OCP as a Database Administrator, you will have to complete training. It is no longer possible to earn the 10g DBA OCP certification. You'll need to begin preparing for the 1Z0-067 exam if you want to upgrade to 12c DBA OCP.

You can find more details on our website http://bit.ly/1wgVel6.

    Hello sir,

I had completed my training program for Oracle 10g workshop 2.I have cleared the exam of 10g OCA (Workshop 1) in Sep 2014.now a day 10g administration program had expired. Now what is best possible way to upgrade to 11g OCP, i have see the paper UPGRADE 9i/10g OCA's to 11g OCP and its code is 1Z0-034.so, i am asked you that,Do i just directly appear for the exam of 11g to complete my OCP track.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 16, 2015

    Hi Saad,

Did you earn the 10g DBA OCA certification in Sept 2014, or did you only pass the 1Z0-042 exam? There were 2 exams required to earn the 10g DBA OCA certification - a SQL exam (1Z0-007, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-051, or 1Z0-061) and the 1Z0-052 exam.

If you earned the 10g DBA OCA certification by passing both exams, you can upgrade to 11g DBA OCP by passing exam 1Z0-034 and completing relevant 11g training. The 10g training will not fulfill the training requirement for 11g DBA OCP.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

To updgrade from 10g DBA OCP to 12c DBA OCP, all you need to do is pass the upgrade exam 1Z0-060 http://bit.ly/1O0zBet.

You can find other available certifications and their requirements on our website http://bit.ly/1jkxzcT.

    Hi,

I'm an engineering pass out. Working in a bpo. I want to switch my career to Software /IT

I have not done any course on Pl/Sql.

However, I have some materials of study oracle 9i

Could you suggest me, if I can go ahead and study to prepare for interview.

Or is it necessary to do a certification on 11g or 12c?

If I want to go for training, which one do you suggest?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 23, 2015

I think that you need to decide your career path. If you wish to pursue a career path that would require the skills covered by the PL/SQL certification, then I think it would be beneficial for you to prepare for the certification exams.

Many people find that certification helps them in the job search and interview process. The best thing for you to do as you make your decision whether or not to pursue certification is to look at job requirements for the jobs you're interested in.

Secondly can i get a link of the accredited centers in lagos Nigeria where i can get the training to be able to upgrade 12c OCP, if possible.

    Regards

    Nkiru

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Pratyaksh, Your training history will not show up in CertView. In order to upgrade from 10g OCA to 11g or 12c OCP, you'll need to complete 11g training or 12c training. 10g training will not fufill the training requirement for those certifications.

    - For 11g OCP, you can take either 11g or 12c training.

    - For 12c OCP, you will need 12c training.

Nikiru, If you have 10g OCA, you can upgrade to 11g or 12c OCP by following one of the paths above in the blog post. I would suggest that you contact OU http://bit.ly/1qjGWIM for assistance with getting registered for the training.

    Good luck to you both!

    Hi Brandye,

I have the OCA 10g, and of course I have the training for the OCP. However I have notified that I must upgrade mi certification.

Before of that I have enrolled in an online course for oracle 11g training with seek learning provider, but looking the path for upgrade in this site, told me that I have to enrol in one of the approved courses of the oracle learning centre for the upgrading path.

I was thinking that I only need to take an exam for the upgrade, but the website said that is compulsory to take one of the approved courses? please can you explain or suggest me what I can do.

    Thanks

    Rosario

  • guest Wednesday, May 20, 2015

    Aseem,

Without knowing which OCA and OCP exams you have taken, I would say that if your exams were 10g, you could take an 11g course that is approved to fulfill the requirement and earn the 10g version of certification, then upgrade to 11g with the 050 exam. However, your deadline for completing and submitting that course is September 1, 2015. After that date, we will no longer grant any 10g certifications.

If your OCA and OCP exams are 9i, that deadline has passed and you will not be able to earn the 9i certification. However, if you have 9i OCA, you can upgrade to 11g OCP by passing exam 1Z0-034 and completing 11g training.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

You do not have to take the training befreo you take the exam, but you will only be granted the certification once you have completed the training and submitted the course form on the Pearson VUE website - http://pearsonvue.com/oracle.

I have completed my 10g OCA certification in 2013 and did training on oracle 10g as well. Now I wanted to upgrade to 11g OCP. Please let me know, am I eligible to write 11g OCP exam ?

    Thanks

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, July 1, 2015

    Hi Nabhesh,

You are eligible to upgrade your 10g DBA OCA certification to 11g DBA OCP by completing 11g training and passing the exam 1Z0-034.

Unfortunately, your 10g training will not fulfill the trainging requirement for 11g DBA OCP. You will need to take 11g training.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hello,

I've completed my Oracle 9i OCA. I'm planning to upgrade to Oracle 12c OCP by taking the 1Z0-067 and passing a registered course. However, I saw that the deadline is November 1, 2015 to keep my Oracle Database credentials active. Since I'm close to the deadline, can I still take the exam to upgrade to 12c beyond Nov 1? Thank you.

  • Rajnish kumar Wednesday, October 28, 2015

    Dear Barrington,

I have successfully passed all 4 papers of Oracle 9i in 2009 and was not attended any training for oracle 9i courses. Now here in oracle 11g i have done all oracle 11g training like below

    1. oracle 11g new features courses

    2. Oracle 11g Rman courses

    3. Oracle 11g Performance and tuning courses

    4. ORacle 11g Golden gate courses

Here i want to upgrade my certification from oracle 9i to Oracle 11g. I am not sure whether oracle 9i certificate will be count or not as i did not get any Hands on with Oracle 9i courses.

    1. so tell me how i can proceed which oracle exam required to become oracle 11g OCP

    2. what all mandatory courses is required ( not optional )in oracle 11g in my situation.

  • guest Thursday, October 29, 2015

    Hi

But I had completed oca certification before 2yrs so now I m eligible for ocp certification...

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, October 30, 2015

RAJNISH, Technically, you did not earn the 9i certification because you did not complete the training. Unfortunately, the last date that you could earn the 9i credential was the end of May. I suggest that you contact the Oracle Certification Support team http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP and ask if there is any way that you could get an exception to earn the 9i credential. The 11g courses will count toward your 9i credendial. And then you can upgrade to 11g by taking exam 055.

KUJORI, You mention that you have your OCA credential and you passed exam 055. Those two do not match. What version is your OCA credential? If your OCA credential is on 11g, you'll need to take exam 053 and complete relevant training to move from 11g OCA to 11g OCP. If your OCA credential is on an earlier version, you'll need to pass exam 034 and complete relevant 11g training.

I would suggest for the 'guest' posting on Oct 29, to be a little more specific in his/her request.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, October 30, 2015

    Guestoca,

Yes you can still take the upgrade path after Nov 1. Your 9i credential will become inactive on Nov 1, but will be reactivated once you upgrade.

    Brandye Barrinton

    Owais,

    You will need to:

    1) pass exam 1Z0-067 - http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:1Z0-067&sc=WWOU15043965MPP001C002

    2) Complete relevant training. Recommended training is listed on the exam page referenced above. Other courses that are accepted to fulfill the training requirement are listed on this page https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=653&get_params=p_id:249#tabs-3&sc=WWOU15043965MPP001C002. Click 'View Upgrade Path' beside "Oracle Database 12c Administrator OCP - upgrade from Oracle9i, Oracle Database 10g or 11g DBA OCA" and then click "Show Courses".

    3) Then you'll need to submit your course details through http://pearsonvue.com/oracle.

All the info you need should be on those two pages.

I am an oracle dba 10g to be precise OCA OCP and sql expert certified I hv an interest in oracle and want it as a career I want to be able to utilize oracle and be one its best users in nigeria , now I hear oracle 10g is retired what should be my best bet I hv been told to claim retired oracle 10g ,why should I claim it? What should be the best bett? Take another training on 12c or 11g ? What are the chances of getting a job with 12c ? Or being established how much of a difference to 10g I studied? Rem most companies in nigeria still use 9i database thanks need your response

  • guest Tuesday, December 8, 2015

My recommendation is that you upgrade to 12c, which is the most current version of Oracle Certification. This will keep your certifications active. You can upgrade with a single exam - 1Z0-060.

Even tho most companies still run 9i, having 12c knowledge and certification puts you in a position to advise on the benefits to the company of upgrading. It also potentially makes you available for contract work through companies like elance.com. Your updated credential helps to set you apart from your peers.

There are quite a few differences between 10g and 12c.

    Good luck with your career!

    Hi Brandye Barrington,

I've completed my 10G OCA and given 1Z0-034 exam for upgrading to 11G OCP , but training is in progress and will end by April 2016 , what should i do to complete my certification before my 10g OCA becomes Inactive .

Please let me know soon !

    Thanking you , in anticipation

    -Atul

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, February 3, 2016

    Hi Atul,

I don't know any way to accelerate the training unless you register for a different class that has a different schedule. Your credential will become inactive in March, but once the 11G OCP credential is granted, the 10G OCA will become active again. You'll only have a short time that this credential will be inactive.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Dear Sir,

Previously you recommended me to attend the training for 1Z0-067 if want to upgrade from 9i OCA to 12c OCP. Now the 5 days training on demand "New Features for Administrators Ed 2" has been completed. Please suggest how to move forward to appear on exam? Also kindly let me know how can i prepare myself for the exam questions, it would be 102 questions in exam so are the topics only related to "New Features for Administrators Ed 2" or from any other part as well?

Appreciate your guidance and step by step response will be appreciated.

I did my hands-on training for Oracle 11g DBA at NIIT(oracle University) and have obtained OCA 11g. The certificate is on certview. Presently I want to upgrade to 12c OCP, do I require fresh training apart from the exams?

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, July 20, 2016

If you wish to move from 11g DBA OCA to 12c DBA OCP, you'll need to pass exam 067 and complete 12c training. If you wish to use your 11g to fulfill the OCP training requirement, you can do the 11g OCP exams and then upgrade to 12c. Unfortnately, the 11g will not fulfill the training requirement for 12c certification.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, July 21, 2016

    LakshmiPathi,

You have two choices. You can take exam 062 to move from 11g OCA to 12c OCA, or you can go on to 12c OCP by passing exam 067 and completing relevant training.

    Regards,

    Hi Mohit,

Unfortunately, 10g Certifications are no longer being granted, and you need to have the 10g DBA OCP certification in order to follow an upgrade path.

Since you've completed all the steps apart from submitting the training, I suggest that you contact Oracle Certification Support http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP to see if they can make an exception.

I’m OCA in oracle 9i Track. I cleared below two exams as OCA from developer track and I’m also Exadata Certified and cleared below exam for same.

    (1) IZ0-007 9i SQL
    (2) IZ0-0147 9i PL/SQL
    (3) IZ0-027 Exadata X3-X4 Certified

I’m working as Oracle DBA since 14 years. Now I want to attempt Cloud IZ0-160 (Dbaas) certification but seems this exams has prerequisites to have 11g or 12c OCP certification first ? if this statement is correct then please suggest the path to complete 12c DBA certifications for me ?
  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, March 20, 2018
    Hi Nitin,
You are correct. You need to have 11g or 12c DBA OCA in order to earn Oracle Database Cloud Administrator Certified Associate.

Since you've already passed a SQL exam (1Z0-007), you can earn 12c DBA OCA by passing 1Z0-062. You'll need to be sure that you create your Pearson VUE profile using the testing ID from your previous testing so that your exam results and certifications will all be under the same record.

    Muniyappan,
Are you an Oracle DBA OCA or OCP? The requirements are different.

If you are DBA OCA, you will need to complete 12c training and pass exam 1Z0-067.

If you are DBA OCP, you will only need to pass exam 1Z0-060.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, August 30, 2018
    Hi Magwai,
You'll need to upgrade your DBA OCP certification to 12c by passing 1Z0-060 in order to earn the Performance and Tuning OCE. Alternatively, you can take a training course and pass exam 064 to earn this credential.

These two courses fulfill the requirement:
    - Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning
    - Oracle Database 12c R1: New Features for Administrators Ed 2
