Upgrade Your Certification to 12c

Guest Author

Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professionals (OCP) can upgrade to the ground-breaking new Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Professional certification by taking a single exam, "Upgrade to Oracle Database 12c" (1Z1-060). This is an opportunity for candidates certified on the very early Oracle7.3, Oracle8, Oracle8i, and Oracle9i Databases, as well as the more current Oracle Database 10g and 11g to upgrade to the latest version with only one exam.

While training is not mandatory for candidates to upgrade their certifications, the Oracle Database 12c: New Features for Administrators training course is highly recommended to help prepare for the exam, as it highlights an array of advanced subjects and technologies, such as the new concept of multitenant architecture, its benefits and usage.

With Oracle Database 12c, candidates will experience the benefits of an Oracle Database that is re-engineered for Cloud computing. Multitenant architecture brings enterprises unprecedented hardware and software efficiencies, performance and manageability benefits, and fast and efficient Cloud provisioning. Oracle Database 12c certifications emphasize the full set of skills that DBAs need in today's competitive marketplace.

Looking for oracle 12c (1z0-060) database upgrade exam guide.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, October 21, 2013

There is not likely an exam guide for this exam yet, since the production version of the exam is not yet released. Authors do not yet know which topics will be included on the exam, so they would not be sure which topics to include in the guides yet.

  • DUNCAN OCHIENG Saturday, March 7, 2015

If you are an OCM in 11g and you do the 1z0-060 exam..will you still be a master in 12c?. thanks folk.

  • YI Sunday, March 8, 2015

    Sir,

Is May 1, 2015 the deadline to take 1Z0-060 for 9i DBA OCP?

    Thanks in advance

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 9, 2015

    Hi Duncan,

The 1Z0-060 exam will not upgrade your OCM certification. There will be an OCM upgrade exam released a little later this year.

When you pass the OCM upgrade exam, your OCP certification will be automatically upgraded, so you can take the 060 exam if you like to upgrade your OCP, or you can wait for the OCM upgrade exam and upgrade both OCP and OCM with the same exam.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 9, 2015

    Hi Yi,

The deadline to upgrade your 9i DBA OCP to 12c via the 060 exam is November 1, 2015.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hi,

I am Oracle Database Administrator OCP Can I appear for 1Z0-060 now and acquire 12C OCP ? Or is My certification expired and have to retake the exam?

What should I exactly do to keep my certification Active ?

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, March 13, 2015

    Hi Atif,

If you hold the Oracle DBA OCP certification - any version - you are eligible to take the 060 exam and upgrade to 12c DBA OCP now.

    Hi,

I have completed my 10g OCA, OCP and 11g [Oracle Database 11g: New Features for Administrators - 1z0-050].

What would be the best suggestion to go for next level of exam in ORACLE?

    Regards,

    Sanjay G

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 16, 2015

    Sanjay,

I would suggest that you first upgrade to Oracle Database 12c OCP by passing exam 1Z0-060 http://bit.ly/1O0zBet.

After that, there are several Expert-level exams that are being released this year that you may be interested in. Exams on Performance Management and Tuning, RAC, and Data Guard. The Performance Management and Tuning exam is currently in beta http://bit.ly/1Frileh.

Another option would be to continue on to 11g Database OCM http://bit.ly/1Frileh and then upgrade to 12c Database OCM when the upgrade exam is available.

There are also a couple of 11g Oracle Certified Expert options:

    11g RAC Expert - http://bit.ly/1qs4hb4

    11g Performance Tuning - http://bit.ly/1wRnriF

As you can see, you have lots of options. Good luck with picking a path from here!

    Brandye Barrington

  • Shahid Sheikh Sunday, March 22, 2015

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am 8i OCP and have been teaching almost all the version of oracle for the last 15 years, which includes Oracle 11G for the last 3 years. Please advice me if i can appear directly for Oracle 12C exam.

Please advice me through email either i can appear directly for 12C exam and i need to get approval from my company for the same.

    My Testing ID is I00120608.

    Sincere regards

    Shahid Sheikh

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, March 23, 2015

    Shahid,

If you hold the 8i OCP, then you can move directly to 12c OCP by passing exam 1Z0-060. Be sure when you create your Pearson VUE web account that you use your existing Testing ID. If Pearson assigns you a new ID, you will need to have the 2 IDs merged. I would suggest contact Pearson VUE for assistance with account set up to avoid issues and avoid delays in receiving your upgraded certification.

    pearsonvue.com/oracle

After you've created your Pearson VUE web account, you'll need to authenticate your account at certview.oracle.com. I would suggest doing this as soon as you can - wait at least one hour after creating the Pearson VUE account. CertView is where you will access your exam score, so I would recommend authenticating and signing in well before your exam so that you have time to work out any authentication issues that may appear.

I searched for 1z0 060 exam guide but could not get it.

Would you please suggest URL from where I can refer to it.

  • guest Thursday, April 23, 2015

Oracle Press has a book on 12c New Features http://bit.ly/1aVF9XK. They do not yet have a book specific to the 060 exam, but you could compare the book topics to the exam topics to see if this existing book will help you prepare.

  • Zulfirman Wednesday, June 3, 2015

    Hi Brandye Barrington,

Im OCP DBA 10g, In the message that i got from Oracle, to immediately upg to 12C OCP DBA latest by March 2016 by having exam 1Z1-060, but i have found nothing on PearsonVue for 1z1-060, only 1Z0-060 available for WW & Japan.

So What kind of Exam that I should take ? following the message from Oracle, it only state 1Z1-060, not 1Z0,060. Who from Oracel can correct this message or which one is the valid one ?

If i miss take the exam till March 2016, let say today is April 2016, what will happen to my OCP ? is it expired ? should then i have to start from Zero in order to be OCP DBA again ? or stil OK to re-activate my OCP DBA only by single Exam (1Z1-060/1Z0-060) above March 2016 ?

    Regards,

    ZULFIRMAN

    Telecommunication Project Manager

    (an OCP-DBA-10G, Cisco CCNP, PMI-PMP, Axelos Prince2Practioner, ITILV2F)

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, June 3, 2015

    Zulfirman,

The exam 1Z1-060 was the beta version of this exam. In order to upgrade, you will need to pass exam 1Z0-060.

If you do not upgrade by March 1, 2016, your certification will become inactive and you will no longer have access to many of the benefits of certification. However, you will regain access to those benefits once you upgrade. It will not be necessary to start over again.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hi everyone,

would you please suggest me, I have completed 12c OCA, Now I want to upgrade to 12c OCP.

Which exam should i need to take to upgrade this to 12c OCP ????????

  • Daniel Lázaro Friday, June 12, 2015

    Hi Brandye,

I'm in the same situation as Zulfirman (OCP 10g) so I'm starting my preparation in order to take 1z0-060. That test covers Oracle Database 12.1.0.1.0, but with the recent release of 12.1.0.2.0 with the new InMemory features I'm afraid Oracle might change the scope of the exam to 12.1.0.2, ruining my preparation and invalidating my brand new books. Is that right? Should I be afraid of any changes on the scope of 1Z0-060?

    Thank you very much.

    Best regards,

    Daniel

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, June 17, 2015

    Daniel,

As far as I know, there will be no changes to exam 060 at this time. The exam topics that you see on the website are the current topics. Typically we give notice if topics are going to change.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Max Monday, July 20, 2015

    Hello, Brandye.

    I am currently 9i OCP.

If I upgrade to 11g OCP before the 1-st of Nov 2015, when is it going to expire (approx.) ?

    Thank you, Max.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, July 20, 2015

    Hi Max

If you upgrade your 9i OCP to 11g befroe November 1, 2015, your certification will remain active.

    Regards,

  • Terry Friday, August 7, 2015

    Hi Brandye,

Please clear up the confusion... this blog indicates that I only need to pass the 1Z0-060 test to upgrade my 8i OCP cert to 12c, yet my Oracle University rep tells me yesterday, that a training course is also mandatory and that the self-study course does not qualify. What's really needed to obtain the 12c cert?

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, August 12, 2015

    Terry,

If you hold an early DBA OCP certification (like 8i) you do not need to complete training too upgrade to 12c via exam 060. We'll mention this to the OU reps who answer the phones. They may be confused.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hi Brandye,

If I'm an OCP in 8i and received email from Oracle that if I don't upgrade to 12c by November 1, 2015, my credentials will expire and i will not have certification benefits anymore. Question for you is if I don't pass 12c (1z0-060) exam by Nov 1, 2015, Will i be able to upgrade my OCP 8i to any other certification by passing 1 exam later? To which product (9i, 10g, 11g, 12c) will i still be able to upgrade with 1 exam after November 1, 2015. Thanks in advance for your help.

    John T.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, August 21, 2015

    All,

If you hold a DBA OCP certification on any version, you can upgrade to 12c by passing exam 1Z0-060. No additional training is required. If you do not upgrade by November 1, 2015, your certification will become inactive. You will still be able to upgrade directly to 12c via exam 060 after that date to bring your certification current again.

If you hold a DBA OCA certification, you will not be able to upgrade via exam 060. You can upgrade to 12c DBA OCP by passing exam 1Z0-067 and completing a relevant training course.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hello Brandye,

I have OCP 9i. I got this notification of upgrading my OCP 9i to a newer version. Please kindly confirm this report. Also can i upgrade to 11g OCP rather than 12c. I hope i wont be asked again to upgrade to 12c if i choose 11g.

    Please advise

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Yes, you will need to upgrade your 9i certification by November 1 in order to keep your certification active. You can certainly upgrade to 11g by passing exam 1Z0-055.

Once you upgrade to 11g or 12c, you will no longer receive the notifications.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hi,

I am OCA 11g how can I upgrade to OCA 12c?

Can someone please let me know which exam should I go ahead with.

    Regards

    Ijaz

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, September 29, 2015

    Hi Hafeez,

It depends on if you are 10g DBA OCA or 10g DBA OCP. If you hold the Associate level certification, you'll upgrade to 12c DBA OCP by passing exam 067 and completing 12c training. If you hold the Professional level certification, you'll upgrade to 12c DBA OCP by passing exa 060 and no additional training is required.

Good luck on your upgrade path!

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, October 1, 2015

    Ijaz,

If you want to earn 12c DBA OCA, you can pass exam 1Z0-062.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, October 1, 2015

  • I P H Tuesday, October 6, 2015

Hi I am unable to take the "Upgrade to Oracle Database 12c" (1Z1-060) before November 01.

I called Oracle University Support at 1800-5290-1655 and they told me the deadline for 1Z1-060 is March 1st 2016 ... ( Not Nov 01 2015)

    How true is that ?

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, October 8, 2015

There is no deadline to take exam 1Z0-060. There is a deadline to upgrade your certification in order to keep your previous certifications active.

If you do not upgrade by the deadline, you will no longer have access to the certification logo, certificate and ability to verify your certification through certview.oracle.com.

You can still upgrade after the deadline and regain access to those benefits.

If the latest certification you hold is 9i DBA OCP, you must upgrade by November 1, 2015.

If the latest certification you hold is 10g DBA OCP, you must upgrade by March 1, 2016.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

Unfortunately I did not pass the iz0-060 exam last week. I understand that my certification is no longer valid. Until when can I take the izo-060 exam again and get recertified. Is there anything else I will have to do except pass the exam.

    Thanks

    David

  • guest Friday, November 6, 2015

    Hi David,

If your certification is OCP, then you only need to pass the 060 exam and your certification will be upgraded.

Sorry to hear about your first attempt with the 060. I hope you do better next time!

    Regards,

Yes you can, Amit. Just be sure that you're registering for the new exams using the same Oracle Testing ID (Prometric ID) you used for the 9i exams so that all the exams will be under the same account.

    I have a 10g OCP, I can still take 1z0-060 exams to upgrade 12c ?

  • guest Tuesday, January 12, 2016

    Hi Edwin,

Yes, you can upgrade to 12с DBA OCP from 11g DBA OCP by passing exam 1z0-060.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

Hello, I am a 10g OCP, and I am going to taking the 1z0-60 exam. what if I fail and cannot pass before 1mar2016? Can I re-take it after 1/3 to regain my OCP status?

  • guest Wednesday, February 3, 2016

Yes, you can retake the 060 upgrade exam after the deadline. So, on March 1, your 10g OCP will become inactive if you haven't upgraded. The credential will become active again once you have upgraded.

    Hi

I complete my oracle 10g OCP, i want to do the 12c 1z0-060 but they mention the date of 1 march 2016. suppose i cannot able to do that on that time, what is my position ...?

  • guest Monday, February 15, 2016

    Venkatesan,

You can still upgrade via exam 060 after 1 March 2016. On that date, your 10g OCP certification will become inactive and you will not be able to access your eCertificate or logo. You also will not be able to verify your certification to a third party.

Once you upgrade (even if it's after 1 March 2016) you will regain access to those items in CertView.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • guest Monday, February 15, 2016

    Raks,

You should automatically receive the 12C OCP certificate if you completed your certification exams using the same Pearson VUE account. When you signed in to CertView to see your 12C OCP exam score, do you also see your 10g OCP certification in that CertView record? If not, you've probably ended up with two Oracle Testing IDs that you'll need to have merged.

You can contact Pearson VUE http://pearsonvue.com/oracle for assistance with this.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Dong Chen Thursday, February 18, 2016

    Hi,

I have passed the exam 1z0-060 to upgrade my 10g ocp to 12c ocp at Feb 18,2016.

How can I get my 12c certification? should I meed to send email to you to apply for it?

    Dong Chen

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, February 19, 2016

    Dong,

Your eCertificate should be available in CertVew.oracle.com. If you're not seeing the certification and eCertificate in your CertVew account, the most likely reason is that you used a different Oracle Testing ID for the 10g and 12c exams. If you have more than one testing ID, you'll need to contact Pearson VUE (www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/contact) to request an ID merge. This way all your records will show up under a single CertView account.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

Hi there, I obtained my 9i OCP before certview.oracle.com was created. How do I find my prometric ID to use when taking the IZ0-060 upgrade exam? I have the original card that I received but there is no number on it, just my name and certification title.

I know my 9i OCP is inactive, but I wanted to take IZ0-060 to reactivate it.

  • guest Friday, February 26, 2016

I obtained my 9i OCP many years ago before the certview site existed. How can I find my candidate / prometric id? I know my certification is now inactive but I want to upgrade it to 12c to reactivate it and I'm assuming I need that candidate id. I do have the card that they sent when I became certified, it only has my name and certification name (i.e. 9i ocp) on it though, no candidate it.

  • guest Monday, March 7, 2016

    Adewale,

Your certification has become inactive and you currently do not have access to the eCertificate, logos and ability to publish your credentials to a third party in CertView. You can still upgrade your certification and you will regain access to those benefits.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • guest Monday, March 7, 2016

You can upgrade now. The certifications became inactive, but the upgrade exams are still avaialble. Once you upgrade, your certifications will be reactivated.

Is Training Mandatory for Upgrade to 12c ?

  • kharanshu sharma Wednesday, August 24, 2016

    Hi,

i am oracle 10g OCA, OCP certified.. and i have scheduled my exam for 1z0-067..already having working experience so dint go for any additional training/hands on from oracle.

1.)i need to know does 1z0-067 requires mandatory to submit hands on training on 12c?

2.) does this exam will let my certifications activv for 10g oca, ocp plus 12c ocp

    or

10g oca only and 12c ocp

    or only

    12c ocp.

    please update asap.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, August 25, 2016

Hi Prakash, it is not too late to upgrade. You can upgrade your 10g RAC OCE to 11g RAC by passing exam Oracle Database 12c: RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration 1Z0-068 - https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:1Z0-068&sc=OUNV160511P00006C0001. If you want to also uprade your OCP to 12c DBA OCP, you'll also need to pass exam Upgrade to Oracle Database 12c | 1Z0-060 - https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:1Z0-060&sc=OUNV160511P00006C0001.

Hi Kharanshu, If you did not complete any training for 10g DBA OCP, you did not earn that certification. So your current certification is in 10g DBA OCA. In order to upgrade to 12c DBA OCP, you'll need to pass the exam you've been preparing for Upgrade Oracle9i/10g/11g OCA to Oracle Database 12c OCP | 1Z0-067 and you'll also need to complete relevant 12c training and submit the course form. This will reactivate your 10g DBA OCA certification as well.

Good luck to you both on your upgrade paths!

    Hi Brandye,

as i am already 10G OCA, OCP certified and has submitted my Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop II.

by mistake i have scheduled my exam to upgrade to 12C OCP from 10G OCA(1z0-067) instead of 1z0-060 (direct upgrade from 10G OCP to 12C OCP) and 1z0-067 requires some courses needs to be submitted for earning 12C OCP.

can you please let me know as i have already submitted course "Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop II" while taking 10G OCP.. do i still need to submit any other course for earning 12C OCP with 1z0-067 exam?

    please let me know ASAP.

does "oracle 10g admin 2 workshop" that i have submitted before while taking 10G OCP includes "Oracle Database: SQL Workshop I"(this one is listed above).

do i still need to submit any other course for 1z0-067???

NOTE: i have mistakenly scheduled for 1z0-067 instead of 1z0-060 and i am having my exam on 29th august and voucher will expire on 31st august so i anyhow needs to give 1z0-067 only.

does upgrading with 1z0-067 let me upgrade to 12C OCP without any additional hands on? and will this re-active all my previous 10g OCA,OCP credentials with new 12 OCP as well?

    please clear.

    Thanks!

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, September 20, 2016

    Hi Kharanshu,

If you are upgrading from 10g oca to 12c ocp, the correct exam is 067. You will need to complete new training. The 10g course you took will not fulfill the training requiement for 12c ocp. You'll need to complete a 12c course.

    Funlola,

I recommend the Oracle Database 12c New Features course and passing exam 060. If you hold the 8i DBA OCP certification, you can upgrade by only passing exam 060.

    Good luck on your path.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, September 7, 2017
    Hi Syed,
The most current Forms Developer certification is Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Forms Developer. You will need to first upgrade to Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional by passing exam 1Z0-140 and then upgrade to the 11g certification by passing exam 1Z0-151.

I am an 8 ocpdba. Can I still upgrade to 12c ocpdba without attending any classes from Oracle university for 1z0-060 ?

I don't have the testing I'd which I had from Oracle star international(india) since its been 12yrs and I only have the Oracle 8 ocpdba card with me. What are my options. Any suggestions will be of immense help.

    Thank you
  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, December 5, 2017
    Hi Kishore,
Yes, you can still upgrade with a single exam. There are a few steps you need to take first.

    1. You'll need to create a Pearson VUE account. Since you don't know your testing ID, I recommend that you call Pearson VUE and ask for assistance in setting up the account. Let them know that you already hold a certification but you cannot remember your testing ID. They should be able to help you access your records and create your account using your previous ID. They won't have your exam records because the exams were not taken with Pearson VUE, but they should have a record for you because we loaded all certification candidates to the Pearson VUE when we moved our testing to them.

When that is done, you can register for the 060 test.

    2. Once you have created your Pearson VUE account, you'll need to authenticate your CertView account. You should do this before you take the exam so that you won't have any trouble accessing your exam scores after taking the exam. You'll access your exam score in CertView.oracle.com approximately 30 minutes after taking the exam. You will not receive the test score at the test center.

You will go to certview.oracle.com and use your email address and Oracle Testing ID to authenticate. If you have trouble authenticating, your account will be referred for manual authentication after 3 failed attempts. If this happens, the support team will assist within 1 business day.

    Hi Brandye,

I have 11G OCA certification and would like to go for Upgrade to 12C or 12CR2 OCA certification. I don't find an exam for it. Please suggest what exam code is right for my requirement.
P.S. Am not currently planning for OCP.
  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, February 19, 2019
    Hi Gopal,
In order to earn the 12c or 12c R2 OCA credential, you must pass a SQL exam and then pass the Admin I exam for the desired path.

Since you already hold the 11g OCA credential, you have likely fulfilled the SQL requirement. I recommend that you move to the most current version of certification, which is 12c R2. You can find the requirements here:

    https://education.oracle.com/oracle-database-12c-r2-administration-certified-associate/trackp_492

I'm also curious as to why you do not wish to move to OCP. The higher level of certification will open more job opportunities to you. You will also learn so much more in your exam preparation.

    Good luck on your journey!
    Regards,
    Brandye Barrington
