Oracle Launches New Oracle Linux 6 Certifications; Oracle Linux 5 Exams To Retire

Oracle Certification announces the release of the new Oracle Linux 6 certification paths. These new OCA and OCP credentials will give you a solid foundation of knowledge to implement and administer the Oracle Linux Operating System. Oracle Certification is also announcing the retirement** of the existing Oracle Linux certifications.

The "Oracle Certified Associate, Oracle Linux 5 and 6 System Administrator" (OCA) is designed for individuals who possess a strong knowledge of the Oracle Linux Operating System, and covers topics such as: describing Oracle Linux concepts and understanding system configuration options, installing Oracle Linux and installing and maintaining packages, as well as managing kernel modules, users and groups, storage devices and network configuration.  This certification differentiates candidates in the marketplace by providing a competitive edge through proven expertise on the only Linux distribution that's fully optimized for Oracle products and for running on Oracle's engineered systems including Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, and Oracle Database Appliance. Up-to-date training and field experience are recommended.

Earning this certification requires passing a single exam: "Oracle Linux 5 and 6 System Administration" (1Z0-100). This exam is currently in beta testing and is now available for registration through Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide. Although there is no required training for this certification, the Oracle Linux System Administration course is highly recommended to help ensure success on the certification exam.

Building on the competencies in the Oracle Linux 5 and 6 OCA certification, the "Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Linux 6 System Administrator" (OCP) certification for Oracle Linux 6 will cover more advanced knowledge and skills of an Oracle Linux Administrator.

Earning this certification will require passing a single exam: "Oracle Linux 6 Advanced System Administration" (1Z0-105). This exam will be released in beta testing at a later date.

With the release of the new Oracle Linux certification paths, Oracle announces the retirement of the current Oracle Linux 5 exams. These exams will retire on October 31, 2013. Existing certification holders should note that these retirements suspend the delivery of any further exams, but do not affect your certification. If you currently hold an Oracle Linux certification earned by one of the retiring exams, your credential remains fully valid.

This exam will be released with the same title, Oracle Linux Fundamentals and will lead to the Oracle Linux Certified Implementation Specialist credential.   If you wish to pursue this partner-oriented certification, you will find the exam under Oracle Linux Fundamentals (1Z0-409).

Exam 1Z0-402 will retire on October 31, 2013.  Candidates wishing to earn their Oracle Linux 6  Certified Associate and Certified Professional credentials should start with the new single-exam Oracle Certified Associate, Oracle Linux System Administrator exam.

SUN did promotions for the conduct of the tests. Now Oracle could do well to become more accessible.

    Hi Bruno,

We feel that our exams are competitive within the industry. You can check out Oracle Workforce Development Program, or Oracle Academy for discounted training and exams. However, the programs they offer are a little limited.

Does anyone know when the Exam 1Z1-105 will go into production ? I already passed the OCA exam and want to do the OCP one as well. But the voucher type I have doesn't work for the OCP.

    Thanks !

That's a good question! I wish I had a good answer for you. At this time, the best I can tell you is to stay tuned here, to this blog. We will announce the release as soon as we have the info.

Congrats on your OCA certification. You shouldn't have to wait too much longer for OCP.

    Is OCP equivalent to RHCE?

If it is higher than RHCE, then can we skip OCA and directly go through this exam if we already have RHCE?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, July 21, 2014

I have run this question by our Subject Matter Experts and received the response that the RHCE is different from the Oracle Linux Certifications. In order to obtain the Linux OCP certification, you will first need to achieve the OCA.

Can you still get OCA certification by passing the Linux+ LPI certification?

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, September 26, 2014

This path is no longer available.

This post is old and misleading. The OCA 1Z0-100 is no more in beta.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Yes, this post is old. However, we are unable to go back and update every single post that we have released when they become out dated. It is always a good idea to check the date of a post.
