Oracle Launches New Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certifications

Brandye Barrington
Sr. Program Manager

Today Oracle University announces the release of new Oracle Database 12c Administrator certifications. The new Oracle Database 12c certifications emphasize the foundational and advanced skills needed by Database Administrators and will prepare DBAs to leverage powerful new management and consolidation capabilities, resulting in an even more valuable credential for customers and partners.

The Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) for Oracle Database 12c objectives measure IT professionals' mastery of day-to-day administration skills and their ability to manage the challenges they're likely to encounter on the job. This credential focuses on SQL skills, operational administration of the Oracle Database including performance and space management, and installing, patching and upgrading the Oracle Database.

Earning the OCA credential requires successful completion of two exams: 1Z0-061 - Oracle Database 12c: SQL Fundamentals and 1Z0-062 - Oracle Database 12c: Installation and Administration. The OCA certification track also allows for several alternate exams which can be substituted for 1Z0-061.

Building on the competencies in the Oracle Database 12c OCA certification, the Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) for Oracle Database 12c certification includes advanced knowledge and skills required of top-performing database administrators. The OCP credential focuses on developing and implementing backup and recovery strategies, designing consolidation strategies to exploit multitenant container and pluggable databases, and thorough understanding how CDB/PDBs fit into the DBaaS cloud-computing model.

Today, Oracle is releasing 1Z0-060 - Upgrade to Oracle Database 12c, which allows Oracle Certified Professionals with credentials in Oracle 9i, Oracle Database 10g or Oracle Database 11g to upgrade to Oracle Database 12c with a single exam. The upgrade exam focuses on designing consolidation strategies to exploit multitenant container and pluggable databases, implementing Oracle 12c feature-rich ILM support, optimizing SQL execution using dynamic swapping of sub plans, implementing real-time data redaction within databases, as well as exploiting many additional performance, backup and recovery, security and partitioning enhancements. The exam also includes a thorough review of core DBA skills.

Visit the OCP certification track for more details on the new upgrade exam as well as alternate certification paths.

The Oracle Certified Master (OCM) for Oracle Database 12c - a very challenging and elite top-level certification - certifies the most highly skilled and experienced database experts. Further information on the 12c OCM level will be announced as exam development concludes.

To date, there have been more than 1.6 million Oracle certifications granted worldwide. Explore these certification tracks, exam requirements and objectives, and start toward earning your exciting new Oracle Database 12c certification credentials from Oracle.

i have completed oracle workforce development program with NIIT, India

    in 10G

i am also preparing for 11g OCA DBA EXAM

    now 12C has come

i am confused how to go about it?

    Great Information!!!!!

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, July 2, 2013

My suggestion would be that if you completed your training in 10g, that you pursue the 10g certification and then upgrade to 11g and 12c via upgrade exams. The reason for this is that, if you eventually plan to pursue the OCP certification, after completing OCA, there will be a training requirement. Your 10g course will only count toward 10g DBA OCP certification and will not fulfill the training requirement for 11g or 12c OCP. If you skip 10g and go on to 11g or 12c, you will have to complete 11g or 12c training in order to obtain the OCP on those versions.

However, if you go for the 10g now and apply your 10g training, you will be able to upgrade to 11g and then 12c without further required training.

I am 11g OCP. Just wanted to know whether Upgrade to Oracle Database 12c certification is beta exam ?

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, July 10, 2013

    To answer both questions above:

    1) You need to choose whether you wish to upgrade to 11g and then to 12c so that you'd then have 3 versions of OCP DBA certification. Or you can choose to upgrade directly to 12c with the 060 exam. Then you'd have 2 versions of the OCP DBA certification.

    2) The 060 12c upgrade exam is currently in beta.

Where can I get a study guide for the 12c Beta Exam (1Z1-060)?

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, July 31, 2013

We do not produce study guides for exams. You can check Oracle Press http://bit.ly/URFuwt to see if they have a study guide yet, but it is doubtful. You could also take the recommended training.

You will find the exam topics on the exam page (click the link in the post above). These will help you determine what you need to study.

i am certified in oracle 10G for both OCA and OCP. now i want to upgrade to the latest version which is 12c.

    my questions;

    1. is upgrade available?

    2. if yes which please suggest me?

    3. will i upgrade both OCA and OPC or only OCP?

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, September 18, 2013

    1. Yes, an upgrade is available.

    2. You must pass exam 060 which is currently in beta.

    3. This will upgrade only your OCP. It is not really necessary to upgrade OCA.

Looking beta Exam guide of Oracle 12c database .

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, October 10, 2013

As far as I know, there are no exam guides available yet. Typically the exam legitimate guides are produced after the exam is in production. Be careful what you find online - much of what you find when you search on exam guides are brain dumps. Using brain dumps is cheating and can get you banned from testing.

I suggest using CertGuard to determine if your practice test, or exam guide provider is legitimate http://bit.ly/OQjbJv.

I am Oracle 11g OCA, but not OCP. Which exams are needed for me to get Oracle 12c OCP.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, March 7, 2014

At this time, the only option for you is to pursue the 12c OCA path and then move on to 12c OCP. However, in a couple of months, we plan to release a path for OCAs certified on earlier versions to upgrade to 12c DBA OCP via a more streamlined path. Stay tuned.

After reading the article I am a bit confused and want to know how to study to become an OCA. I am new to SQL so knowing the correct path to follow is critical as I am trying to prepare my study materials.

I would like to know if I should start studying for exam’s 1Z0-061 & 1Z0-062 (NEW EXAM) or exam’s 1Z0-51 & 1Z0-52 being that I am new to SQL.

    Should I take exams 1Z0-51 & 1Z0-52 then upgrade to exam’s 1Z0-061 & 1Z0-062 ?

This is largely a personal decision. 12c is the latest version of certification, which is what we always recommend. However, many companies may not be upgraded yet to 12c. Your best option may be to go for the 11g certification first and then upgrade to 12c.

You may also want to get commments from your peers on the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm.
