On June 18, the new Oracle Database Advanced PL/SQL | 1Z0-148 exam for developers will be available.

Why We're Excited

This is an updated version of the exam Oracle Database 12c: Advanced PL/SQL, designed to support a more modern, streamlined exam release cycle.

This new exam is version agnostic, meaning that the exam is not tied to any specific version of the Oracle Database.  This exam supports both 11g and 12c.

Removing the versioning from this exam and certification title better aligns with the SQL certification track and with the modern defined job role.

Quick Glance:  What's Important to Know Now

  • Before June 18, 2018 candidates passed and earned the Oracle Database 12c: Advanced PL/SQL (1Z0-148) exam.
  • On June 18, candidates who pass will earn the Oracle Database 12c: Advanced PL/SQL (1Z0-1480) exam.  All will earn (and keep) the credential of Oracle Database 12c: Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional.
  • After June 18, 2018 forward candidates who pass the updated new exam Oracle Database Advanced PL/SQL (1Z0-148) will earn the rredential Oracle Database PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional.
  • Retiring Oracle Database 11g: Advanced PL/SQL | 1Z0-146 on June 30, 2018 in conjunction with this update.
  • We have notified all candidates who were registered for the 1Z0-148 exam and who would be affected by the release of this new exam.

I think this makes logical sense for the Oracle Developer perspective to have the titles of our certifications be version "agnostic".

I currently have the two (2) certifications:

    Oracle SQL Certified Expert
    Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate

As you see they both do not mention any Oracle version which I think helps. I like the way this is going with Oracle and it helps us developers when looking for jobs, in that potential recruiters/employers don't see certifications with versions in their title. The reason being is because over time, they become stale/old as Oracle versions increase their numbers over time and thus the recruiters/employers think your "skills" become stale/old.

Hi, I'm enrolled to take the 1Z0-148 in a few months. At the moment I enrolled, the Oracle SQL Expert Certification was one of the possible pre-requisites to obtain the Oracle Database PL/SQL Developer certification (OCP) but now that SQL Expert certification does not appear anymore, so I do not know if the exam I enrolled is still useful or do I need to take another exam before

    Hi Lisandro,
The requirements for earning the PL/SQL Developer OCP have always been
    - Earn the PL/SQL Developer OCA
    - Pass exam 148

Having passed the SQL Expert (1Z0-047) exam does fulfill the SQL requirement for PL/SQL OCA. The two pieces that are required to earn that certification are:
    - Pass a SQL exam (1Z0-047, 1Z0-071, or 1Z0-061)
    - Pass exam 1Z0-144

If you've already passed exam 047, you can earn the OCA credential by passing exam 144. If you passed 047 and 147 before they retired, you may already hold the OCA credential, and all you will need to do is pass 148 in order to earn the OCP credential.

    Good luck on your path!

    Hi Lisandro,
I apologize - I told you incorrectly. Yes, the pre-req is to pass one of those exams in the list and pass the 148 exam.

If you've previously passed the 047 exam, that will fulfill the pre-requisite. No need to take another of those exams in the list. It's simply not listed anymore because it's now retired.

    Brandye

    Hi,

I have passed 1Z0-071 exam, Can I take 1Z0-148 directly or is it required to pass 1Z0-144 as well. Pls help
  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, February 19, 2019
    Hi Ambi,
So sorry for missing this question earlier.

Since you've passed the 071 exam, you can go directly to exam 148 in order to earn the Database PL/SQL Developer OCP certification.

Thanks very much for the information.
I have a basic question. I did my first OCA certification in 2004. At that time , in order to complete OCP one of the mandate requirement was to have a class room training .
Currently I hold title of OCA and looking forward to become OCP by clearing new Oracle Database Advanced PL/SQL | 1Z0-148 .
My question is do I still need to go for a hands-on class room training in order to earn a credit of OCP
    OR
just passing Oracle Database Advanced PL/SQL | 1Z0-148 will make me OCP.
Many thanks in advance for your help .

    Ritesh,
Apologies for the delay in replying. Training is not required to earn the Developer OCP credential you are seeking.
